Despite the square being obscured by the work on the Rennes metro, this little bistro is a lovely place. Popular with the locals, and understandably so. I almost feel I shouldn't review it as it is so small, with less than 20 covers, the ambience may be ruined!
However, I am - because the food and the service is excellent.
There is a long story to how the owner ended up being the chef, but he did, and he is a very good chef indeed. The food is provincial (in the best sense). Be prepared for surprises though...Les tripes, is not for the faint-hearted.
The menu changes daily, and there is only a choice of 2 items per course - but they are lovely regardless.
The wine is good - this last time, we had a local wine, no label - more like fruity water, but lovely and fresh - perfect for lunch.
Find Seven and cherish it.
