A nice place to walk on the walls and enjoy the beautiful view.
A lot was written about this place, but I can't understand why
in the middle of the day, they closed the public toilets?,
no sign, no opening time, just closed. Shame on them.

I have taken some American friends to visit Fort National in Saint Malo last week-end. The tourist group mostly consisted of non French speakers, but the young guides did not even dare asking the visitors if they were able to understand French. The content of the visit was really not interesting, the visit was done in less than 20 minutes and we were all kicked out of the Fortress. This was and will be my first and only visit to Fort National. Visitors who come to Saint Malo should rather visit other parts of this beautiful city instead of wasting their time and money for this visit.

As a child, I lived near an island that was only accessible at low tide and people were always getting stranded, so was a bit anxious (totally irrational!!). Worth the short walk across the sand, and the view back to the city was interesting. Good guide on the tour, or if not taking the tour I'd advise buying a guide book.

Not worth the visit if you are interested in the history of the building as there is none given, the view from the top of the tower is fantastic (Take your camera)

My husband was so excited to see this Fort. We arrived the afternoon before and saw the tide was in, but next morning the tide was out, and he could walk right out to the fort. He was lucky in that a tour was about to start, and they shut the group inside. Though he couldn't understand a word of the French tour, he still thoroughly enjoyed the tour. He particularly found the authentic oil lamps in the ammunition store really interesting. He was so fascinated that the tide was 9 metres in St Malo, which made the walk out to the Fort all the more exciting. He also loved the fact, that though he couldn't understand the French, he could find a pdf in English online to read about the fort.
