Owner description: The Caves Bailly Lapierre are located in the heart of the Auxerrois, above the town of St Bris le Vineux. Created in 1972, the Caves Bailly Lapierre gather together 71 winegrowers who sell their cremants, the Caves' specialty, and wines on site. Dug deep in the stone, the wine caves are used as a cradle in which to create cremants. Guided tours of the caves are organized every day from 2:30 to 5:30 pm, in july and august, and from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on weekends and bank holidays.

We set out to find the Caves and got lost then came across them by accident! Very different place to visit.
The sparkling wine is absolutely gorgeous, we only bought a couple of bottles, big mistake! We should have bought a couple of cases, very very good!

This was a different thing to do especially on what had been rather a wet day. Very enjoyable tour and an amazing sight of the thousands, maybe more, bottles of wine being stored in the caves. We enjoyed the tastings and bought some bottles to bring home.

Firstly, dress warm as the tour is underground! Parking your car underground is a fun experience... Tour is not expensive at €4, but the guide showed us pictures or equipment or barrels, no workings / production line. Price included samples of their products + branded glasses to keep but it was not nice enough to buy. I wouldn't recommend this place in truth.

An amazing reveal as you walk through the corridor entry to this superb cellar. The scale is impressive and the Chablis and Mure well worth the visit.

Cool wine cellar in a cave. Definitely worth the stop to learn a bit more about how wine is made, and to see the literally millions of bottles stacked up in the dark, slightly spooky caves while it ferments. At the end of the tour you can taste as many of the wines as you like for free, and purchase them if you like. The local speciality is the excellent Cremant de Bourgogne - a sparkling wine which matches champagne and is far cheaper.
