After a difficult day of cycling and running late to our dinner reservation (we called ahead to advise that we'd be later than our reservation) we were welcomed by our host and had a wonderful meal and an impromptu chablis lesson. Our meals were cooked to perfection and our host was attentive and engaging throughout our visit. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Poivretsel again or recommend it's delicious menu and wine list to anyone going to Auxerre for dinner. Just fantastic!

Set in a charming square in the old town, this small restaurant was recommended to us by our nearby hotel. Great service, interesting menu on a blackboard and excellent French country cooking in sufficient portions. Reckon on about €30 per head for 3 courses, plus wine. The tables quickly filled on that wet winter evening and it is probably advisable to book!

We sat outside in May. I had the egg hors d'oeuvre, oeufs cocottes, deliciously runny eggs in melted cheeses. Then I had a Portuguese-accented veal dish, subtly spicy, peppery sauce, but not sharp at all, spicy just to be rich in flavor. It was accompanied by a wonderful tossed green salad in vinaigrette, tossed expertly, perfectly by them --so many restaurants these days want you to toss your own salad. The red wine of the house was fruity and delicious, but you can't go wrong in Burgundy ordering house wine. Dessert was excellent home-made ice cream. I failed to write down the cost, it was so un-troubling.

A local pointed us in the direction of this fab little restaurant which has a great location, friendly service and excellent food, we are a bric parcel filled with chicken and mushroom in a thyme sauce with gratin dauphinois, all really tasty and well seasoned would definitely recommend and definitely go back.

Sat typing the review in the restaurant. Warm welcome, friendly and accommodating.

They offered a corner area and left the table free next to us so we could relax and enjoy. (Two children under 5)

On the wines, we asked about the different wines and he said 'try it and we can simply change if it's not to taste' and he meant it!

Food wise they had a good menu with a wide selection, accommodated us changing the menu for the kids and still smiled.

I'll be back when next in the area.
