“Our favourite in Beaune”
Reviewed 1 May 2010

We have stayed here three times and never been disappointed. The hotel is centrally located and full of character with traditional furnishings (but not in great need of renovation). The rooms are quiet and comfortable and the service could not be faulted. There is an adjoining restaurant (not owned by the hotel).

We were a group of 3 (parents with 6-year old son), and I had flown to Geneva for a conference and decided to add a few days vacation to see Beaune and Autun. The hotel is excellent. Built in the 14th and 16th centuries it is right in the centre. The rooms are nice, there is a shady garden, excellent breakfast and friendly and helpful staff.

Our son was ill and required a visit from a doctor; the doctor came immediately and - an unexpected bonus - spoke excellent Russian.

We drove from Lausanne to Beaune with plans to tour the Burgundy region, using Beaune as our base. The town is gorgeous and just small enough that you could explore all of the side streets in a day. After being stuck in traffic on our way into town, we were glad to pull up at Hotel Le Cep - it's very easy to find and has plenty of parking. The staff is very gracious and friendly, and our room was incredible. Our room was meant for a family, with a main room with a bathroom, and then stairs up to a smaller room with its own bathroom. For a European hotel, it was incredible spacious. We could see the roofs of the Hospice from our windows. From the hotel, we could easily walk anywhere, and when we wanted to drive out to the vineyards, it was very easy to get out of the old city onto the main roads. We had great meals at La Ciboulette and Loiseau des Vignes. In addition, we made sure we visited Patisserie Bouchee at least once a day!

We stayed here 2 nights in early November. The hotel is in an excellent location and has wonderful secured parking. We had Room 215 which was probably considered a junior suite. The room was very large and so was the bathroom. The hotel is in need of refurbishment. The upholstery on the sofa and one of the chairs was torn. The TV had to be at least 10-15 years old. We did not have breakfast here as we thought it was overpriced. The internet in the room was excellent.

We found the front desk to be very nice and helpful. They knew that we had a long drive to Paris and on check out sent along a picnic lunch with us. We did like the hotel and the location - however, I do think the rates are way too high for the quality of the room. Once the rooms are refurbished then the price of the room would be justifiable.

We just returned from 5 nights. This hotel is in desperate need of a renovation. It is clearly a "2 star" property. Great location is the only positive part of the hotel. The staff NEVER, NEVER smile. They give quick, to the point answers to your questions.
