We had two nights at this excellent hotel which is a short walk away from Chenonceaux château. Our room was lovely, reasonably sized, looking out on to a little garden where we could sit and the bathroom was perfectly adequate too. Dinner the first night was copious and good quality. We went for a shorter menu the next night which was equally good. The breakfast is absolutely first-class in both quantity and variety. Staff were very friendly though the owner/manager could smile a bit more. It is a little pricey but on balance we thought it was worth it.

A lovely place to spend a night or two. Exceptional food, wonderful atmosphere, great staff. The bedrooms are quaintly French our bathroom was small, actually to small really for the room rate but in no way did this spoil the occasion. The restaurant serves superb food some of the best I have eaten. I look forward to another visit. Strongly recommended.

We stayed in the room above the old horse barn. It was large and roomy. My husband and I stayed in the main bedroom, my daughter on the pullout bed in the next room. Room was very clean and quiet; plenty of room for the three of us. Note to travellers - no pullout bed is comfortable for adults, so book this room only if you are planning to put kids on the pullout.

The hotel itself is charming, with excellent staff.

We had wine and cheese three different areas of the hotel: the pool, the courtyard, and the garden by the car port. Great experiences, all three places.

The restaurant is to die for. Food was excellent! It was the best meal we had on our trip to Paris and the Loire Valley. The head waiter provides flawless service. They were really concerned we enjoyed our food and our dining experience.

We will stay there again on our next trip to France.

We chose this place because we were looking for somewhere to stop on our way through France for a couple of nights to spoil ourselves before going on for the rest of our holiday in a villa with friends. Difficult to find somewhere with a 12 month old! They found us a lovely room out of the way all set up for the little one and could not have been more helpful - don't think this is a kids place but they are extremely accommodating which was spot on for what we wanted.
The food in the restaurant is right up there as some of the best I've eaten anywhere. Full of Frnch locaks so must be good. Not cheap but worth the money. Wine list extensive and anything from 25 euros up. Cheese board is a marvel. Breakfast also excellent and lots of variety.
Will certainly return and would recommend this fr anyone looking for high end food and good quality accommodation.

Hotel with something special

CHECKIN & CHECKOUT: no prob.s. We used cheques vacances for part of our payment - they are a bit painful because you have to put your name on each one ... and they were very helpful with this. Aline even offered to help with bags etc. Very kind and welcoming. Very professional. They let us leave our baby's stroller at reception which was handy. They go the extra mile. Hotel is very nice - well kept, clean and beautiful grounds.

ROOM: not bad - clean etc. They provided a cradle for our baby as requested. Room was the smallest and lowest priced - the only ones available when I booked. It was big enough. Double bed was really two singles put together and a bit soft. Bathroom was not huge but sufficient. Nicely done - modern and clean fittings etc. Room has AC and Tv. Overall room was ok.

MEALS: Dinners here are not cheap - be warned. On the other hand, I found the food delicious. Beware of multi-course meals with small children/babies! The courses take time (understandably) and this makes little ones impatient. Our second night we just went for a starter and a main and it worked out great. Nice wine. Lunch was very nice. Breakfast was ok - usual buffet selection. Nothing to complain about.

SERVICE: Bon Laboureur excels here - very friendly and helpful. At breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any other times we had contact with the staff. Staff offered to help many times.

POOL: The pool was nice - a bit cold and isolated from the main hotel - you have to cross a street and then enter a code to get to the pool. But it's not tiny and on a nice day I'm sure you could have a great hour or two there with kids or just lazing around with a book...

LOCATION: you are in the middle of the village - the castle and train station and other restaurants/shops/hotels are all walkable. The village itself is busy with traffic. Do have a look at the church. We didn't visit the castle - have bad memories of an overpacked Versailles! For peace and quiet, walk the other direction up the hill behind the hotel pas the vines. Very nice and hardly any cars.

OVERALL: I liked it - it worked out expensive (not so much the roombut the breakfast/lunch/dinners were not cheap). Nevertheless, it has something special and I'd stay again. I'd love to visit the village again too.

As we drove into Chenonceaux, we were so pleased to set eyes on Auberge du Bon Labourer. We had read the many good reviews and the property did not disappoint. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and our room (414) across the road from the main building was ideal for our young family of four. The kids had their own room with bathroom and we had our own room as well. Dinner in the dining room was expensive, but very good. They were very accommodating of the kids while maintaining the high levels of service and ambiance. We were very pleased to come back "home" each day after exploring around the Touraine region and would absolutely recommend staying here. The reception staff were also quite helpful in suggesting best places to see and other restaurants. They went above and beyond from the moment we arrived all the way through until after our departure with a call to say my husband had left a pair of shoes. A perfect stay.

My husband and I just returned from 12 days in Europe. After an exciting few days in Paris, we rented a car and drove through the Loire Valley. We were so pleased that we had chosen the PERFECT place to stay. Chenonceaux is the smallest, loveliest, quietest town in the area - but also accessible to the busier adjacent towns. Auberge is gorgeous, spacious, charming and fully appointed. The restaurant is wonderful. One of the highlights of our trip!

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building and loved our room.
