Yesterday the only sign of life were a few paint pots on th floor of a generally gutted interior. It was good when run by Isabelle but those days are long gone.

It isn’t easy to find somewhere for a snack on Sunday afternoon in Loches. I’d arranged to meet a friend there for tea and a chat.

We stumbled on the little restaurant called ‘Isabeau de Touraine’ which was open, and after sampling their wares, we were very pleased that we had found it. Amazingly, we were able to sit outside the restaurant and enjoy the afternoon sunshine even though our rendezvous was in October. The lady that served us was friendly and explained the drinks and desserts that were available that day.

I was tempted by their chocolate tart with a serving of melon ice cream. My friend chose lemon meringue tart. Wonderful! The melon ice cream was superb and the chocolate tart, I had to confess, was even better than the chocolate tart that I make at home.

Whilst we chatted, it was good to watch the people walking past the restaurant, and listen to the different languages of some of the other customers sat outside the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our tea in Loches and would certainly recommend the restaurant to others.

Food quite tasty but minuscule portions. Over-priced, poor, slow service. Much better under old ownership. Avoid.

We loved Isabeau with isabelle there but new owner has changed the menu but fantastic value for money with devastating good salads for lunch and great service to boot. With incredible Loches as the backdrop - we sat outside - what more could you want.

Isabeau's is a very charming, comfortable and peaceful little restaurant, with pleasantly gentle background music. Our welcome was genuine & friendly, as was the service. We called in en-route to the market, and booked a table for lunch, but this was really not necessary at this time of year, as the only other customers were another family.

The decor is very pretty, and everywhere is spotless, including the food preparation area.

We really enjoyed our freshly prepared salade Bergerac, salade Tourangelle, bread, cheeses & strawberry tart......not to mention a bottle of Chinon rouge, still water, large coffees & cognacs. (We were walking, not driving). However, thought that €79.20 was fairly expensive & this is the only reason we have not given 5 stars.

It was our choice to eat here on market day when obviously there was no set menu, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal & delightful service.
