I made the mistake of taking my husband to a suprise vacation for his birthday to this hotel. It is extremely dirty and uncomfortable. They have made a huge effort to give you as less as possible for the money you pay. Very scruffy and dirty blankets, tiny leaking shower, no cupboard but a standing shelf kind of a thing to hang your clothes if you could bare the dust! It stunk, we were very disappointed. They have even blocked the plug holes in the room to stop you using electricity so you can not charge your mobile. I expected a basic and modest room for the price and i am not picky at all but i did not expect to end up in such a bad hotel. They gave us a room on the 5th floor, hotel didn't have a lift and we had back problems. Noone even offered to give a hand. After staying there one night our shower was leaking everywhere, they moved us to the 1st floor which stunk. had dirty blankets with loads of stains on it. It did basicly ruined the atmosphere of a special occasion. Downstairs next door there was a massive sex shop and it was in a kind of seedy area. I don't recommend it even for over night stays. Hostels are much cleaner, safer. I have taken 3 baths since i am back, yesterday.

we booked three nights, thinking how bad could it be? and it was bad. terrible. we stayed one night before running for our lives. the hotel is in a very sketchy area and as 3 young women we did not feel safe walking there at night. it´s next door to a big sex shop with neon lights that flash outside your window until 3 in the morning, and our window was right above their sign. forget about air conditioning, which we didnt expect anyways, but they didnt even have a fan so the room was suffocatingly hot, making it impossible to sleep without (or even with) the windows open, and open windows means getting all the noise from outside, which is substantial. the rooms are bare at best and both the shower handle and the towel rack (and the towels feel like sandpaper) fell of the moment we touched them. we probably could have handled all that. then at 4.30 in the morning (yes, we were still awake, thanks to the heat/noise) some drunk men outside got into a fight, someone got stabbed, a woman was screaming her head off for the next hour, everyone yelling at each other, and about 10 policemen and 3 ambulances and 30 bystanders congregated right under our 2nd story window. we left at 7 that morning and found an ibis hotel, with air conditioning, and internet access, and nicer rooms, and in a nice location by gare du lyon, for the SAME PRICE. so just say no. spare yourself.

Although it's very very basic, the hotel is clean and the bedlinen fresh. We were only in the room from midnight to 8 am and the bed was comfortable. The shower head was broken (room 315) however it wasn't impossible to have a shower.

Don't bother with 5 euros for breakfast it's a waste of time. Better off going to cafe nearby.

I heard a few complaints about it being next to a sex shop, which it is, but this is hidden behind a load of bushes.

Not a bad hotel for the price and location. Would stay here again.

first of all - good location, being on top of a metro station (Gare de l´Est) which has
3 different metro lines. it gets 4 out of 5 for location only because there are nicer quarters to stay in while in paris.
would recommend for travelers on budget.
i added 2 tips at the end of the review.

when we first got there we were a bit dissapointed of the hotel and the room,
and we deicded to check out other places in the area. after few places we got to a conclustion: either pay a lot more (over 110 eur p/n) for a 3 star hotel, or pay just a little
more (20-30 eur more p/n) for places which werent much better (if at all) than D´Alsace.

the hotel is completely new, and the downsides are the entrance to the hotel (when we stayed, there was construction work being done near the entrance), the stairway, and the cleanliness.
rooms were pretty clean, but yet could have been cleaner (dust in the corner of the rooms, showers not clean enough, etc..).

staff was very friendly and helpful, they are deffinetly a plus.
another plus is the free wifi connection.

once again, it is a reommended place for travlers on budget.

regarding the tips:

1. across the street from the hotel theres a bakery called SCHMID with nice
patisseries, and coffee&croissaunt for 1.6eur
2. money exchange - across the street and to the right (near a church) theres
a good place to change cash.

I tell you, I was scared stiff after reading other sites reveiws. The hotel is hidden from the street (I walked by it twice) but once inside, it is nice. Kind of austure, but not too bad. It is just by the Est station and real convienent. I would stay again.
