Owner description: This beautiful museum, once a railroad station, now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art, as well as other items created between 1848 and 1914. In 2011, the museum is running a renovation of the top floor (impressionist gallery). Only ground and medium floor are accessible. The top floor will re-open on the 20th of October. Meanwhile, some impressionist masterpieces are not visible.

I love Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, and was really looking forward to this museum. The collection was great, but the crowds were terrible and the building was WAY overheated (70 degrees outside in late March, and 80+ inside). It was hard to enjoy oneself. Definitely get a Museum Pass as you can bypass the longest line to get in.

Even if you are not especially into art, you just have to visit this museum for its astonishing architecture -it is after all an old train station.

The Orsay is a wonderful and manageable art gallery. The building itself is a work of art. We needed to get out of the rain for a day and spent a most memorable day here. Yes it was crowded, and yes the cafes had long line ups when we wanted a break for our over stimulated brains, but the variety of the collection made the experience very worthwhile. If you want to visit a gallery in one day and see great art this is the place.

The world's very best collection of impressionist paintings lies in this museum. Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, Pizarro and Van Gogh all crowd around each other in galleries on the second floor. Ideally a day's visit, at the very least 4 hours. Do not miss the famous Blue Water lilies by Monet.
Tip: do not forget to take in the sights of the museum building itself, a historic railway station and a monument in its own right.

Long line to get in. Beautiful building, nice location and arr. and a great collection of art but if you don't have a lot of time, skip this museum. I personally preferred L'Orangerie.
