“A little jewel in the heart of Paris”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Beautiful small boutique hotel, where every detail is thought through. Very nicely decorated rooms, ultra comfortable (albeit with a little bit of noise from the road - but none from the other rooms!), with very nice bathrooms. We used the small but exquisite spa: so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing! The breakfast was delicious and served in a very nice room. The whole place is very chic and elegant, but not at all snobby. The atmosphere is very relaxed: it felt like a home, rather than a hotel. The service was amazing: very personalised and efficient.
Perfect location too: in a quiet residential area, but with lots of cafes and restaurants and only 5 minutes walk from St Germain.
We will definitely return!!

Room Tip: Higher floors will have less road noise probably...

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are beautiful but small with quite hard matresses, toilet is tiny! Bathrooms could be great, aside from loud banging door, ONE tiny soap bar, big shower head that needs unclogging. Lastly, for a **** hotel, lift is extremely slow! but.... we will be back!

this boutique hotel strikes smooth harmony between character with romantic flair! our room is exquiste and beautifully furnished. service excellent and location can't be beat and decor to boot....loved the mac computer/tv and top-of-the line coffee maker in the room. bed and fine linens to our likings!

our only annoyance is the room layout. space a tad tight for 2 regular size adults to walk or pass each other between bed and closet.

next time we'll get the bigger suite!!

Room Tip: get the most spacious room you can afford

Travelling a lot in Europe, especially, I will always remember this boutique hotel as an important new "standard" on excellent level! The service at the reception, first (thanks Carlos and all the nice collegues), the amenities, the interiors and internal architecture, the room... more then polite, all warm, nice and beautyful in all its parts!
The location is central enough for all... for sure, the next stay will be at the La Belle Juliette again! The inspired name is a guarantee for harmony and relaxing stay!

I stayed here last week for 3nights and loved everything about this hotel. Paris was classic and it was great to come back here after a big day due to the following; friendly and professional reception staff (loved Danny nothing was a problem) , a romantic pink room with huge bath and comfy bed, fresh towels and robe, turn down service each night with chocolate on pillows, tasty food using room service, the location is handy as metro and shops are a few minutes away. About 40 mins to airport by taxi.
Only thing I didn't like were the pillows, I like a flatter one to sleep on.
Would recommend this place!

Room Tip: Go for romantic room, on the corner as there is no noise.

This review is actually difficult to write as I so much wanted to love La Belle Juliette and give this gorgeous little boutique hotel the 5/5 most others here feel it deserves. This sentiment is no doubt helped by the fact that the very friendly front-desk staff gave us an upgrade upon learning that this was our honeymoon. We were overjoyed as you can imagine!

While I'm on the positives - the hotel, it's well sized public lounge areas and our junior suite are all beautifully decorated in a tasteful mix of modern & period pieces of furniture. Each floor is dedicated to one of the places 'Juliette' enjoyed traveling to with ours done in an Italian theme. The front desk informed us the hotel was only a year old and you can tell - everything is clean and unworn. Our room was small by standard suite standards but largish by Parisian ones with a small sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom with a very nice bath and shower head (unusual for Europe) and separate toilet. We had not one but two iMacs which act as both a computer and TV - we didn't use either as we had all of Paris to explore but made liberal use of the free wifi. The room had no mini bar but the complimentary bottle of still and sparkling each day was welcome and I spotted a coffee machine with capsules that remained untouched but a nice idea.

I've referred several time to the front desk staff - these guys were good!! Very helpful, warm and friendly at all times and if they were all we were rating the hotel on I would be giving it ten out of five. No task was too daunting and a highlight was when they discovered a restaurant we had wanted to visit was shut down. They tirelessly tracked the chef to a new venue - investigated and discovered the food was of the same style as the old one and took the liberty of booking us a table. I love that kind of proactivity!

The location of the hotel was a major positive for me but I realize not all people may not be my way inclined. It is on an adorable Parisian street with many little shops, bistros, etc but feels more local than touristy. It is a short walk from any of the main sights but I feel St Germain-de-pres is a sight in itself to be honest. My best discovery was Le Bon Marche just around the corner - we made liberal use of both the gourmet supermarket (mmmm cheese, ham and crusty bread galore!) and the oh so Parisienne department store.

Now onto the negatives. The breakfast which is not included leaves a lot to be desired. I could get past the lack of buffet and rather limited menu if there weren't so many mistakes but we gave up after three tries and purchased our own breakfast at the local boulangerie to eat in our room on the fourth day. The service was strikingly unfriendly when contrasted with that of the front desk. On the first morning the coffee was ice cold, the bread basket that was ordered never arrived, and more concerning was the number of other guests we heard complaining loudly about their experience. The second morning I ordered the plate of Italian meats and cheeses which arrived sans cheese. When I pointed it out one waiter informed me it didn't come with cheese while the other said it did and proceeded to inform me the chef was asleep so they couldn't confirm what went on the dish. Other experiences included orange juice running out (there was a supermarket and fruit shop virtually next door!), a dish arriving with two kinds of cheese one day and only one the next, coffee without milk when milk wad requested and so on.

Inside the hotel bedroom I'm sorry to say the mattresses were much too soft - if you have a bad back I would recommend you avoid. The bedcovers were sheets with wool blankets (unfortunately wool makes me itch) and the wardrobe posed a problem with the doors not having enough room to open due to a lack of space. Lighting which I see is attempting to be atmospheric is a problem - specifically the lack thereof.

And I know it's the thought that counts but when we arrived in our suite, overjoyed at our recent upgrade we were made even happier by the rose petals scattered on our beds only to be somewhat disappointed by a note offering us 'this' bottle of champagne with their compliments but no actual champagne to be found!

In hindsight I think that with this hotel ranked 6 out of 1500+ on Trip Advisor our expectations were high and were probably judging more harshly than we might have done but when balancing the room cost with the TA rating and our other Paris and Western Europe hotel experiences I think this is still a fair review.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
La Belle Juliette. The discreet luxury of a four-star hotel and the charm of an address that visitors and Parisians will give to their most demanding, cultured friends. In the pure Parisian tradition of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, the hotel is guided by a modern vision of romanticism and urban conviviality. Exceptional service with particular attention to hospitality, guests' well-being, calm and tranquility... All in the heart of bustling Saint Germain. Corinne and Pascal Moncelli, the owners of the hotel, have decided to breathe new life into an establishment that had been left to abandon on the rue du Cherche-Midi by telling the story - or rather stories - of a famous historical personality. This star of her time lived in the 19th century, frequented all the intellectuals and politicians of the era, was blessed with exceptional beauty, had an extraordinary love life and - above all - excelled in the art of receiving. The popular literary salon that she organised from the tender age of 15 attracted the greatest minds of the time and continued until her death, age 72! It is Juliette Recamier - famously known as La Belle Juliette - who gives her name to this new hotel. ... more   less
