“Paris was great, shame about the apartment!”

This apartment is centrally situated close to The Louvre, the Tuileries Garden, Place de la Concorde, L’Orangerie with the Musee d’Orsay on the other side of the river. There are several, varied restaurants just round the corner in Place du Marche St Honore. The Place Vendome, with its world famous shops, is one street away. There is a grocery store, Monoprix, and Metro station, Pyramides, on Ave. de l’Opera. The apartment was clean but has several drawbacks. Its windows open onto a courtyard which has the rear entry doors to two restaurants opening into it. Noise from the restaurants, inc. loud conversations, the crash of recycled glass bottles and the noise of extractor fans is intrusive until 11.00pm, re-starting at 8.00am. Only one key with the two codes needed for entry into the courtyard is provided for the apartment which posed difficulties for us as we were two adult couples who wished, occasionally, to go their own way. We were unable to find the books, alarm clock, cooker, paper towels, soap/shampoo, stereo system or telephone listed as provided. For English visitors ‘2 bathrooms’ means ‘1 bathroom and a separate toilet’. The bedroom with the queen-sized was a good size with bedside tables and a wardrobe. The second bedroom has two single beds, a fold-up bed with one bedside table and a tall, thin wardrobe which was filled with spare linen and towels. As 6 feet of it has been used to provide the bathroom it was very cramped. There was only one table lamp. The window looked out over two roofs to a window, 20 feet away, in the opposite apartment. When open the kitchen table, which is an antique folding card table (pull two legs out), is too large for the kitchen so we put it into the main bedroom when eating in. A disappointing base for a hot, interesting and pleasant few days in Paris.

“Central location but noisy ( above a restaurant kitchen)”

Very central - within a few minutes stroll of many major sights.. Easy access to the Metro, shops , eating places.

We stayed at No 15 . The rather grim inner- inner courtyard where the flat is located on the first floor has about 6 large rubbish containers , so not a pleasant ambience, heightened by the neglected pots of dead and half dead flowers outside the flat window.Communal stair case clean as was the flat . Traditional Parisian building,

The flat is described as quiet . It certainly is not!.It is immediately above the kitchen of one restaurant with the back door ( usually open) of another very busy, all day restaurant a few metres across the courtyard. There was noise from these places from about 8 am until about midnight, rising to a crescendo in the evening . This was doubly ironic given the pre -arrival information asking renters not to make a noise and disturb the neighbours. We booked this flat as it claimed to be 'quiet'.

Various minor things in the description - books , paper towels, phone , hi-fi etc were not there. Sitting room pleasantly furnished. Beds comfortably. Kitchen crockery minimal - 4 plates , 4 bowls , 4 cups and saucers etc . It meant washing up constantly, no bowls to store things in fridge etc. Just a few extra mugs , plates would make a big differencel. No room in kitchen to open up the table to seat 4 so had to set it up in the larger bedroom to eat breakfast together.
