This was a return visit, albeit approx. 15 years after our first one. The hotel is very well situated, close to an entrance to Republique Metro station. Since our first visit the area and the hotel have become rather more noisy.
On our first night the people in the room to our right were very loud until the went out around 9pm. On the second night this was repeated until I knocked on the party wall. On the third night the noise had moved to the room on our left, again I knocked on the wall. We were however awakened around 3am when our neighbours returned from their night out.
The hotel, however is well situated for lots of restaurants and access to the sights of Paris by Metro. The rooms are quite traditionally decorated and furnished, maybe a bit out-dated, but clean. Our bathroom was more than adequate, with a shower over the small bath. The friends who accompanied us had a very small shower room though. We found the bed very comfortable, it was firm, so anyone wanting to sink into the mattress wouldn't like it.
Our check in was handled very humorously, in spite of our poor French, and all other desk staff we came into contact with were very pleasant. There was no problem in storing our cases for a couple of hours after check out until we were ready to leave for the station and our return trip.
As I had looked round at a number of hotels, I thought the rates at Meslay Republique quite reasonable in comparison with others. We didn't take breakfast in the hotel during our stay, so I can't comment on that--there are lots of places round about for coffee and croissants. Overall I would have rated the hotel higher were it not for the fact that I think the hotel and the neighbourhood have deteriorated somewhat since our previous visit.
