... simple and adequate would be more accurate. This is an older hotel, with small, dated rooms. On the upside, my room (25) was cleaned nicely every day; the wifi was strong; AC was a plus, and the location (on place Gambetta) puts you in the heart of a real Parisian neighborhood, with easy access to transportation (a metro station is 30 seconds away), numerous nearby restaurants, cafes, and bars, and Pere-Lachaise cemetery. Downsides: hotel is not well insulated, so noise is an issue (I wore earplugs to sleep every night), including loud noises from water pipes; intermittent odd smells; off-putting night desk clerk.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 days recently. It was a wonderful experience. The personnel is outstanding, the room was clean and the location is perfect close to many things to do and see in Paris. I will definitely stay there again at my next trip.

Room Tip: I made my reservation by phone which got me a really good price

We stayed here for a week after my husband accidentally booked this hotel at the non-refundable rate. We were kind of worried about it, but it turned out to be fine. The location is great, not a lot of tourists around. There are lots of local restaurants, patisseries, etc. The subway is right there. It is about a 45 minute walk to the center of town at Notre Dame. The rooms are small and old, but sufficient. They were well cleaned every day. The wifi was great the whole week. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, we often went to the local McDonalds where coffee if cheaper, or to the patisserie right below the hotel. The restaurant on the corner was also good for both breakfast and dinner. However, we would not likely stay here again on another trip to Paris. Although we liked the neighbourhood, I would prefer a nicer room.

The hotel is right next to the Metro (Gambetta) which is great! The staff are friendly. I felt safe there.
The first room I was given was not nice. It had peeling wallpaper. I had to ask if there was another room available....which there was. Why do hotels persist in this rigmarole. Especially fobbing off rooms to lone travellers. Would it have been to difficult to give me the better room in the first place?
The new room tho small was clean, neat and tidy. The pipes do make a rather alarming noise....especially in the middle of the night which can be rather disconcerting. It was very clean and the chambermaid did a good job.
The sound proofing is not good but saying that I had a good nights sleep and the bed was very comfortable. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but few toiletries...just soap and a minute sachet of shampoo.
I did not take breakfast so can't comment on that. I was visiting my daughter, who is staying in Paris. As she met me at the station she accompanied me to the room. This seemed to alarm the receptionist as I received a phonecall asking me if I knew I had booked a single room....well of course I did but it seemed to cause confusion if she came to the room with me! It made us feel uncomfortable.
All in all if I got a special deal I would stay there again but it is not what I would consider to be a 3* hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure they give you the best room available.

I chose this hotel because it was close to where my daughter is living and is well priced. But it turned out to be a good choice. It looks very modest and somewhat old-fashioned (the Jetson-family styled bar never had anyone in it) but the rooms were clean and serviced everyday. And the toilet and showers worked well. My room looked over Place Gambetta. I could open the windows and watch the world go by but when the double-glazed windows are shut there is no noise. I was also very impressed with the security system at the hotel and there is someone on the desk all night. As well it's just around the corner from the metro so it's an easy and safe walk to the hotel. It's a little out of the way in Paris terms, but if you are travelling on a budget and have time to either bus/velib or metro into the centre, then this is a. Hotel to consider.
