“Good hotel, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2012

We picked this hotel shortly after arriving at the airport (CDG) because this trip no was planned. We walked into a tourist info center in the airport and booked it there. We arrived at the hotel shortly after 1000, and even though we were not allowed to check in we were able to drop our bags and take to the streets. The hotel is in a great spot, 2 minutes from the metro, there is a little shopping district to the north, and plenty of places to eat. At night however, the area around the hotel seemed somewhat questionable.
The room was clean and the bed was big and comfortable. We had free wifi and mini fridge. All the amenities were there, except an iron and ironing board. At the front desk there was a brochure stand with plenty of options. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I think the breakfast was included but chose not to partake.

We stayed there in January 2010 (not like we put February 2011 but there was no "January 2010 option). Great location but the hotel itself not really nice. Small dark rooms but clean. Bathroom tiny. Breakfast was included in price of the room- no complains. Two big pluses- free wifi and staff- very friendly and helpful. We spend most of the time walking around Paris so this was place only to come back to for a sleep (bed wasn`t really comfortable). Considering the location- we might stay there again

The rooms are generally dark and have ugly decorations. The pillows are body pillows (narrow and long) instead of proper bed pillows. Wifi has reception from time to time. The toilet is said to be as modern as previous comments but 1)The toilet door cannot be closed completely, leaving a gap in between 2) Water is dripping down the sink on the floor 3) the toilet is very high up away from the ground 4) the water pressure was weak 5) Hair dryer automatically stops after 13 sec and have to wait for another 5-10mins before it works again...

In terms of services, I have met 4 people at the front desk. (1 of them seem to have trouble understanding English). 2 of them are very helpful and cheerful. The others are rude and made us feel unwelcome.

However, the location is convenient - 5 mins walk to Sentier (metro station, which 2 stations from Opera), and a street full of restaurants.

I will not recommend this hotel and would recommend the 2 cheerful front desk lady/guys to move on to a better hotel :)

Great location to everything, Hop on hop off bus just couple hundred metres, close Metro. Good food area close by. St Denis area little average for families. A couples hotel. Breakfast terrible - Do not pay extra 9Make sure included) Very quiet no problem sleeping in good beds & clean linen.

Room Tip: All similar - Quieter higher up we were in 510 go.

This hotel was the worst experience on our 2 week stay in Europe. The room had a nasty smell that would not go away. They make you turn in your key whenever you leave the hotel. We found out why...they stole our $2000 camera when we went to dinner for 2 hours our last night in the room. (It wasn't like we left it out for them to find either, it was out of plain site). In the morning they refused to show us the surveillance film of the time during the theft. They refused to call the police and when we asked for the phone number to the police, the receptionist said she didn't know the number!
Do not waste your time, money, energy, effort or anything else on this hotel.

We have booked this hotel through Choice Hotels International for one night, called the hotel in the morning and warned them we will be arriving late and asked them whether everything is fine with the reservation, and he said yes. We arrived after a long international flight just to be told that the prepaid and uncancellable booking was cancelled and they will not accept us. They were apparently fully booked, and decided to cancell the cheap uncancellable reservation, keep the money, and give the room to somebody else!

We had to run in circles in order to find the lodging in Paris on that night, since everything was packed. I have reported the issue to the chain, and expect not only the payback.

So if you want to be stranded in Paris - go for this rude and unreliable place.

After reading rather mixed reviews online my boyfriend and I decided to try our luck with Royal Aboukir and are we ever glad we did. The moment we stepped in we were more than pleasantly surprised.

The MANY postives:
- Location was EXCELLENT (District 2, 15 minute walk to the Louvre; it is also walking distance to almost every tourist destinations, street close to many amenities such as shopping, grocery store, cafes/restaurants)!
- Staff at the hotel was extremely friendly (and they spoke English very well)!
- Room size was more than comfortable for two (with full mirrors, desk, mounted lcd tv, mini bar fridge)!
- Bathroom was appealing and very modern (had bath + shower, jets, hand held shower nozzle, glass door, etc)!
- Daily housekeeping was included (we had clean towels, freshly made bed, new toiletries every morning)!
- Internet was included in the room rate (and it was highly reliable - just ask the front desk for the code for the duration of your stay)!
- Buffet breakfast available 6:30 - 10:00am for 8 euros (nice option for people to start off the day, we went one morning although decided instead to buy croissants and cheese at the nearby grocery store and keep it in the fridge a tip that saves you a bit of money)!

The FEW negatives:
- Rooms are definitely not sound proof (but don't let this deter you, it didn't disturb our sleep in any way);
- Inflexible check-in time (hotel staff was strict on this, we could not check in any earlier than 2:30pm - however they still housed our luggage in the basement when we did show up early);
- Elevator is small (it holds 1 person and 2 suitcases, or 3 people - this is VERY common in Europe though - NOT an inconvenience at all, but I think I should inform people of this)
- Bathroom was rather small and with limited storage space (but again still very manageable).

Ultimately, the positives outweigh the negatives! Keep in mind though that it is still only a 3 star hotel according to European standards... it is however GREAT VALUE for the price (849 euros for 10 days), I would definitely recommend!!!
