All throughout our tour we kept hearing that we couldn't leave Paris without sampling the Laduree Macaroons. Luckily, when we were visiting the Louvre there was a shop on the premises and we filled a box to bring home and also sampled some for ourselves. The guides were right -- they were amazing...pricey to say the least, but priceless in deliciousness and delicacy. We were told they only last three days and we got them home in four but our family still loved them even though some of the richness and delicacy had faded a drop. For a special taste of Paris put them on your must eat list.

Who ARE these yo-yos who are giving Laduree bad reviews? It's obvious they are bus tour bufoons who know nothing about France or French cuisine. I have been enjoying Laduree for fifty years. I always go there for breakfast when I am in Paris. They have expanded to several locations in recent years but I prefer the original location on the Rue Royal, which dates from the 19th century. The service can be slow, but their pastries are among the best in Paris and their little sandwiches are something one dreams about when one gets home. The place is busy during the rush hours, because it is so famous. If you can go at an off hour, you will enjoy their delectable creations in peace. I could throw up when I read inane reviews by Americans complaining that French service was not "friendly" enough and that they were not sufficiently "catered to". Being overly friendly is not a French trait. The French are reserved and consider extravagant friendliness to strangers "phoney" and objectionable, which it certainly is. They are not going to kiss your butt, tell you to have a "nice day". or refer to you as "Sweetie".. If you like that kind of behavior, stay home and visit Des Moines or Muncie where such comportment is endemic.

Ladurée in Paris is a spot foodies should stop. There's a great location too in Covent Garden, London. Whichever you're closest to, give it a try. I had a to die for salted caramel that made my tastebuds do backflips. The presentation inside the store and the service makes it all complete.

The best Macaroons ever! You should definitely visit this restaurant, I bought lots of macaroons that we sat and ate on the Champs Elysees, they were so nice we went back for more. They make great presents too! Can't wait to visit next time i'm in Paris!
