After reading all of the excellent reviews, I was really excited to try Alleno Paris, however I left feeling disappointed and confused. It was Bastille Day, and the chef wasn't there, so maybe it was just an off night? I'm not sure, but Regardless, my experience was less than desirable. I went by myself for dinner and had the tasting menu. The service was very professional and efficient, but there was no warmth or personal touch. A big part of the Michelin experience is the service, and I was disappointed to see how stiff and impersonal it was. I almost felt uncomfortable, and they didn't take any extra steps to make my experience special or memorable. I've dined at many Michelin starred restaurants, so I know what to expect. It would have been nice if my server asked where I was from or how I heard about the restaurant. There wasn't really any personal touch, as I've experienced with other 2-3 starred Michelin restaurants. Also there was no explanation about the chef or restaurant, which I thought was odd. I had the same server through out the evening and when I left, he didn't ask me how my meal was or thanked me for coming or if I needed a taxi. The hostess as well did not ask if I needed a taxi. It was very odd and surprising. Just a little personal touch goes a long way.
As for the food, it was what you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant, yet the flavor profiles were off. The food didn't feel inspired or imaginative. When I go to a 3 star Michelin restaurant and pay that kind of money, I expect to be blown away, and sadly that was not my experience. I went to Alain Ducasse at Plaza Athenee the next day- that was a world class, 3 star Michelin experience. From the food to the service to the space, everything was perfection from start to finish. When you leave a restaurant, you should want to go back. Unfortunately, I cannot say that for Alleno Paris. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for the money. There are better, much less expensive restaurants out there or 3 Michelin star restaurants that are worthy of their stars.
