“Best choice for a Seine dinner cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

This dinner cruise was one of our favorite evenings in Paris. This is a smaller company that operates one 2 hour dinner cruise each night. The boat leaves from a dock near the Louvre and sails past all of the highlights along the Seine including the Statue of Liberty, Notre Dame, and you pass the Eiffel Tower right as it lights up on the hour. It's a spectacular sight from the river! Some of the larger dinner cruise operations are just tourist traps, but Bateau le Calife does not feel that way. The boat is absolutely charming and has a nice, romantic atmosphere. The service is good and the food is delicious. The marinated shoulder of lamb was our favorite! Don't forget to make reservations- you can make them online up to one month in advance.

“A must!”

My husband and I enjoyed this dinner cruise on the last night of our honeymoon. The atmosphere was perfect as well as the size of the boat. There is no bad seat. Although we were happy to get a seat up top. We would definitely recommend this and do it again....

however, we did run into a couple of minor problems....

#1...the waitress took our drink orders and 20 minutes later still hadn't returned with them so we had to ask again...she did apologize profusely and took them off our bill....

#2...we asked for water half way through dinner and encountered the same problem with tardiness. This was a little hard to believe considering others didn't seem to be having the same problem and there were definitely enough staff to go around...we did end up finally getting the water after asking AGAIN 15 minutes later...

#3...my husband ordered the steak WELL DONE...and instead received it pretty much medium rare...it was completely red and bloody on the inside, but by this point we were getting sick of having to keep pointing things out so we didn't say anything...he just sucked it up and ate as much as he could...

#4...I had ordered my dessert choice at the beginning when they take all the orders, but my husband wanted a little more time to think about what he wanted to get so he ordered his right before dessert was to be served and....lo and behold...they brought me the same thing he ordered instead of my order :S....again, I didn't bother saying anything because to me dessert is dessert...I basically like it all, but I was still disappointed.

HOWEVER, despite these unfortunate issues...all in all the cruise was fabulous, the food was quite good, the price was right and we'd definitely recommend this and do it again ourselves!

“Great job by an artisan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2012

As we visited Paris, we truly enjoyed a family evening on board Le Calife in early July.

I liked the smaller format of the boat - a converted barge (more character, cozier - more romantic if one needs such ambiance ). Le Calife offers only one cruise per evening. They take reservations on their website. I was asked for a credit card deposit (~150 euros for a party of 6) which seemed legit given the smaller size of their operation. They were easy to deal with by email. Their location on the left bank was not known to our taxi driver - all directions provided on their website were quite handy at that time (unless you know Paris well, you may want to have them with you). The drive down the quay (last 1/2 mile) was indeed fun and new for most of us. Then you know you are embarking on something different.

The two-hour cruise on the Seine is the key attraction (note that it was not commented which I indeed appreciated as we enjoyed the dinner). The tour is extensive from Notre Dame to the copy of the statute of Liberty, and as anticipated, we were in front of the Eiffel Tower as it lit up for its evening show, on the hour.

The dinner, given it is made on board, was very nice. Two menus were available: Our party tried both and they are well worth their respective prices. The wine list is modest in choice and price - generally young wines. Service was friendly and tried to be attentive from the time we embarked: it helped mitigate the couple of small issues - one late delivery of an entree for one of our 6 guests, and one delivery of the wrong entree - to the same guest! On vacation, we took that with humor. And a free drink on the house helped....

Overall, a very good evening, with much character, good memories all at the very good value - good dinner, good cruise, good times. If you want a cruise on the Seine, I highly suggest trying this artisanal operation: they delivered for us.

“Highly recommend”

There are several other dinner cruises you could chose but none as romantic and eclectic as this one. Atmosphere is great, trip is 2 hours (others run 1-1.5hours) and the price is reasonable.

“Great cruise alternative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

This is such a great value compared to the other dinner cruises on the river. The food was good, they accomodated my children with a special menu that was only 20 euro for entree, plat and dessert. Forget all the rest, this is the best value by an exponential amount.
