“First Class Location and Property”
Reviewed June 28, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Our family of eight enjoyed a superb week in this well appointed and extremely well located property in Carcassonne ( looking up from the garden at the old castle walls is very atmospheric especially in the evenings). Seven days of unbroken sunshine with temperatures peaking at circa 35 degrees also certainly helps.

The property has been recently completely and sympathetically renovated, the swimming pool was a great hit of course with our six year old granddaughter and the various places to eat at the property, due to a well thought out layout, was great. In the mornings the courtyard area was perfect and again in the evenings, while the large open but roofed and railed upper balcony area was great in the mid day heat for lunchtime eating.

The property is large as you would expect for sleeping eight and it provides excellent space for all. The city of Carcassonne is a pure delight, with the castle as a centrepiece and up there in the old city there are some excellent restaurants, of particular note try Jardin De Le Veque , this serves virtually Michelin class food at little more than restaurant prices ( we were Euros 320 for a full evening a la carte meal with much wine for all eight of us) in a beautiful outdoor garden setting. I understand the restaurant is associated to the 5 star hotel also up there which does indeed have a Michelin Star for it's restaurant. For a great Tapas experience try Lescargot, also up there, again full dinner with drinks for eight at Euros 240 ( closed on Wednesdays).

The owners have someone looking after the property ( Nicola) so if you have any issues she is available ( was handy when we needed another fan and she delivered the next day).

Were there any criticisms ?, none that would really qualify as such, my wife thought air con would be great but I disagree, I think it would detract from the property. A large sun brolly for the downstairs courtyard area, covering the table, would be good as without that you can't stand the full sun beating down in the middle of the day ( that's where the upstairs covered balcony area comes into its own but it is away from the kitchen area).

All in all a first class experience ( our first time west of Provence)., the owners should feel rightly proud of what they have there.

“spectacular house with a spectacular view”
Reviewed June 12, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

7 of us had a great week staying at Maison du Chateaux. There was always a comfortable place to sit whether you were looking for sunshine, shade or a cool spot in the heat of the day. All the bedrooms were well equipped and the beds comfortable. We enjoyed evenings in the old city and shopping in the market of the new town. Sitting on the terrace at night soaking up the view of the castle whilst enjoying the wine provided makes for some great memories. This house is great for large family groups or groups of friends.

“Stunning property great location”
Reviewed April 15, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Brilliant house for a large party of people, so much space both indoors and outdoors. The garden was perfect for sunbathing and dining. We didn't use the pool as it was too early in the season but in the summer it would be wonderful. The house creates a feeling of calmness and seclusion while being accessible to all Carcassonne has to offer. The immediate area has local shops for daily bread etc and several good restaurants. La Cite is within a short walking distance with so many restaurants and a 15min walk takes you over the bridge to Carcassonne old town. The house has been well planned and provides everything required of a holiday home. The views of the castle morning and evening are spectacular and the house has been designed to get the best of this. The owners although we did not actually meet we're wonderful when air traffic controllers took strike action, and responded to our situation with overwhelming kindness. The house would be excellent to stay in throughout the year and I will most certainly use this property when holidaying in Carcassonne. I have already recommended the property to family and friends.

“A real find.”
Reviewed November 5, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Located at the foot of the Cite this really is a great place for a break. The bedrooms are all en suite and the beds are very comfy. The whole place is well equipped with plenty of room for everyone to have their own space if they want to. The outdoors area is well thought out and the addition of the pool is great. Unfortunately we didn't get to use it as it isn't heated and the sun didn't really reach the pool.
The garage is roomy but only for one vehicle which is okay if you're sharing a car, there is however some parking around the streets. These are very narrow. Having the cite so close is fantastic, it's literally a 5 minute walk and having access to the cite at night and early morning is a real privilege. Any negatives? Yes, just one. I wish I'd used this property before I did!

“Great House”
Reviewed October 28, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Lovely big house just below the old town. Plenty of room for a family reunion and well equipped. Well located for exploring the city. Enclosed outdoor space for eating, and safe pool for the kids to jump in. Owner very helpful in sorting couple of issues during stay.

“Absolutely fabulous”
Reviewed October 10, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We spent three weeks at the Maison du Chateau in Carcassonne. We were 8 people much of the time. The house was fabulous. There were 4 bedrooms with ensuite baths - all ample. The spaciousness of the house was much appreciated. It was possible to have private space even with 8 guests. The kitchen was very well appointed. Everything we needed was there. The large gas stove was great. Our children cooked for us many of the nights we were there and the large second floor patio dining area with its amazing view of the fully lit Cite was an excellent spot to enjoy their creations. The markets (three days a week) in the new town provided us with the ingredients to create the wonderful meals we enjoyed. If cooking is not your wish, the dozens of restaurants within walking distance are an excellent alternative. We enthusiastically recommend this location.

“What a find!”

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful house. If the weather had been better we would have made much more use of the lovely pool, we managed to swim on three days but unfortunately cloud and rain stopped us from using this excellent facility. One reason for choosing the house were the en-suite facilities as there were 9 of us including our 4 year old grandson we were all able to relax in our own private space.
The house is equipped with everything you could need, furnished tastefully, with ample indoor and outdoor eating places. We didn't have a car but found it easy to get around on foot. If you get tired of walking the white train from outside the main entrance to the medieval city will take you to the newer part of Carcassonne for 3 euros return leaving hourly at around ½ past the hour from 10.30am.
The quiet street and unassuming façade hides a perfect place to holiday.
