I was certainly expecting better food than I had, after reading the reviews. The "Imperial" rolls (fried nem wrapped in lettuce) were mediocre, and had an odd taste. They reminded me of Chinese rolls with canned bamboo shoots, which give a weird, almost metallic taste.
I had gambas with mixed vegetables; the dish was "blah," and lacked flavor though the vegetables were plentiful and fresh. We skipped dessert; the coffee was very good.
The food here is better than most Chinese/Vietnamese food in Provence, which is rarely worth eating. But after eating in San Francisco and Vietnam, I think that "Hanoi" has a way to go. It is a decent place for a Provencal town, but nothing more.
As everyone said, the service is friendly and helpful. The two course lunch meal took nearly two hours. The server asked if we found the wait too long, and after I replied "yes," he explained that everything was prepared fresh. But still, two hours is too long.
