We had a lovely meal at Aux Bouchees Doubles last week. (We had actually booked Le Petit Table just along the road but there was not a single soul in there so we called our hotel and asked them to cancel the reservation for us - our French wasn't up to that!). ABD was packed with just 2 small tables left. We arrived at 10.15 pm and I had the duck with figs and honey, which was a huge breast like a giant 'duck steak', Lovely fries and my cousin who was with me had steak which was also lovely. We had a pitcher of house red which was nice wine, at the end of the evening they brought us a large glass of 'posh' wine on the house. I had cheese for desssert which was enough cheese to feed a family for a week. Delicious. My cousin had creme brulee which was good too.
The rest of the people in the restaurant seemed to be locals. The evenings music was very entertaining 80's and 90's English which the waiters and guests joined in with delightful french accents. However it was only when the French pop music came on later that the whole restaurant (apart from us obviously) burst into song!
The following evening we walked past the restaurant on our way home and one of the witers was outside - we were greeted like long lost friends and invited in for bubbly on the house - what a treat!
All in all a Bistro not to be missed. I would say it was the highlight of our fantastic weekend in Lille!
