If you want a wknd of luxury then Saint Maurice is not for you. However, if you want an excellent budget Hotel in a fantastic location then this is for you.
Concierge Julienne could not have been more helpful. Not only agreeing with our choices but going out of his way to make restaurant reservations for us. Julienne was again very helpful with finding parking for us.
A good French breakfast.
Wifi was excellent.
For the price I can't fault it.

This budget hotel is indeed full of character. Yes, the lift is big enough for a small child, with no luggage, and our room was on the top floor, which meant using the lift to the fifth floor and then walking up some stairs. The shower was near the bed and the glass door left little to the imagination, so it was quite cozy. The hotel WiFi had clearly left the building and I'm not sure if anyone managed to find it. The hotel is in a great location. It's only a short walk to Lille centre and it is peaceful. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not the hotel for you. If you want authentic French hospitality and character, give it a try. It's very reasonable.

2 nights bed and breakfast for less than £100, 5 minutes from everywhere. We were on the 5th floor. Very quiet room, quite small but decent bed and bedding. Radiators didn't work but didn't really need to warm the room up. Luke warm water on our second night but it was sorted out by the morning. Breakfast more than adequate. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room though which we missed. Our one complaint was that our room smelled very strongly of stale cigarette smoke.

Booked this hotel as its location was central and the train station very close. Very basic , no bar , no real facilities etc but was clean and had a charm. Receptionist was a guy from Burundi who was really charming and friendly. Very reasonable for an over night stay.

We booked this hotel for 4 nights as a base to tour Lille, Arras and the surrounding countryside.

The hotel is two minutes’ walk from Gare de Lille Flandres rail station and five minutes’ walk from the Eurostar station at Gare de Lille Europe, with the Euralille shopping centre in-between.

We were asked to settle our bill on arrival and did so after first having a look at our room. We were then given the keys and the door entry code should we arrive late in the evening.

The elevator is small, but we both managed to the third floor with our suitcase, no problem.

We stayed in room 35 on the third floor at the front overlooking the church, a small quiet room with no outside street noise, the only noise being from the other occupants of the hotel chatting in the corridor. The room size was adequate for our stay with plenty of room for the suitcase, the beds clean and comfortable, and plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was tiny, you could only sit on the toilet sideways to close the door however, there were plenty of nice quality clean towels, lots of hot water, and the power shower was terrific. The toiletries were replenished daily. There is no air-conditioning, but then we did not need it in September. There is also a key operated safe in the room, so best to keep your room key with you for safety.

The breakfast, which was included in our room price was brilliant, warm fresh baguettes and croissants from the bakery next door with butter, jam, honey, soft and hard cheeses, orange juice, yoghurt and a pot of coffee or tea served individually on a tray – delicious and plentiful.

They were having problems with the Wi-Fi in the rooms, but I had no problem connecting in the breakfast room.

The location is brilliant, within walking distance of Vieux-Lille and all the main places of interest, shops, cafés, restaurants and bars.

We had heard a lot about beggars in Lille, but we did not encounter many at all. Maybe the police are on top of the situation, there were certainly plenty on duty around the rail stations.

As a budget hotel this is very good and we can certainly recommend it. The staff are friendly and some speak excellent English.
