“Great location”

To explore the historical center of Rouen, this hotel has the best location ever. You're just a 1 min walk away from the small market place, which is surrounded with lots of restaurants and bars. (If you like Latin music, you should visit the Cuba Libra bar !)
The room was small and painted in dark colors but, who stays in their rooms if you have so much to go and see in this medieval city? The room was clean and that's what matters most to me.
If I am to visit Rouen in the future, I'm sure to choose this hotel again.

You can not get more central than this. The rooms are a bit small and the lighting is a bit dark. Clean and nice atmosphere though. Parking is a bit of a challenge as the yard is narrow.
Nothing fancy if you want a room with some space then this is not your choice. Want a room close to the city and for a reasonable price then this is the one.

Can't beat this hotel's location in a semi-pedestrian area of central Rouen: close to all sights and with a huge number of restaurants nearby, including La Couronne, the oldest inn still in operation since its establishment in 1345...
The hotel's staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It is true that the rooms are smallish and somewhat darkish, but what should one expect from a hotel which is located smack in the middle of the historical center of a medieval city ? Well, quiet lodgings and free WiFi, of course !
Breakfast is excellent (by French hotel standards) : its buffet includes Nespresso coffee (no George Clooney, though). It can sometimes get crowded with busloads of British tourists coming to look at the place where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake (ghoulish isn't it ?).
If you get there by car, be aware that the hotel is located in a pedestrian area: you will have to negotiate with a disembodied French voice to lower the access barrier at the entrance of the Rue de la Pie (no problem if you know enough French to state where you're trying to go). Also, the hotel provides only a few parking spaces in its courtyard, but it has an underground parking accessed by means of a car elevator (an experience all in itself !).

Room Tip: The higher, the quieter (and the view also improves markedly)

The hotel is very Central, close to many resturants, the Cathedral and St.Joan of Arc Church. As the furnishings were in dark wood it made the rooms dark. The bedroom was also dark, walls painted grey and with the poor lighting could not read in the room. Breakfast was OK had the usual rolls ,jams, cheese etc. Plenty of eating places nearby mostly serving seafood.

Excellent location for exploring Rouen city. Staff very pleasant. Breakfasts pretty good - fresh fruit in the fruit salad for example. Have never anywhere before encountered rooms so dark and gloomy - sort of dark brown colour with purple woodwork and not helped by feeble low energy light bulbs. Bed firm but comfy enough, and was quiet at night. Virtually no storage space. Bathroom was lighter, but only 1 of its 3 bulbs worked on arrival. Bathroom towel rail electric heater didn't work. Shower excellent in our room (207 on 2nf floor if you're interested), but friends reported no shower curtain in theirs making it impossible not to drench everything. Was staying as part of a package, so tour operator clearly got big discount on listed room rates - which seemed high if paying full price.

This is the second time we have stayed here. Despite negative reviews this is an EXCELLENT hotel. If you want a larger room ask for one. The rooms have been updated since we stayed here 2 years ago. They say the bathrooms will soon be updatd only. This is a PERFECT place to explore the beautiful old town.
Parking hint: if you arrive by car and putvthe address in a GPS it will tell you that it is in a street without vehicle access. Go to the barrier and press the blue button. The local police will answer. Tell them you are staying at the Best Western Hotel du Vieux Marché. They will open the barrier. Turn 1st right and right into the hotel car park. This will save you having to leave the carv at. The barrier and walking to the hotel to ask for the car park. (This can be a bit daunting if you are at the barrier and someone else is behind you!)
Overall this a a fantastic hotel. Take no notice of the bad reviews!!
