The food is bad and not fresh. One of my friends got diarrhea after the dinner. No oven outside and it was cold in the evening. A small good is that the waiter is friendly.

We were expecting to be disappointed based on the reviews here, but we were hungry and there wasn't much open for dinner on a Sunday evening in the off season, so we tried it. We ordered from the specials menu and both loved our meals. The brasoucade of mussels and shrimp came with bread and a generous portion of aioli on the side to accent the delicious broth, and had the largest shrimp I'd ever seen. The chicken Arlesienne was cooked with sweet peppers and zucchini, and came with rice. We also ordered a local rice beer (Le Gardien) that was quite refreshing. For the two meals and the one beer the bill was 35 euro, about what we'd spend on a good meal out at home. And we were very entertained by the waiter's story about the time Rick Steves came to eat there!

So don't blow this one off. We found it to be quite good.

Stopped by to get a couple of crepes for dessert after dinner at another restaurant in Arles. Took a little bit to attract waitress's attention after which she demanded (mostly suggested) if we were doing a take out. We were planning to sit down and the waitress did not even try to hide disappointment caused by our response. When we sat down, she threw the menus on the table in front of us.
We did not place an order being afraid of a kind of food we were going to get based on the "warm welcome". We got up, said "bonne nuit" and left.
We should have read the reviews before stopping here.

Great location in Arles - close to the sights and a very busy square ideal for people watching. A very tourist orientated place to eat lunch. The menu was fine, the food was OK. Service good and friendly. Other reviews would suggest this is some kind of hell hole serving food set to hospitalise you. In my experience this is not the case. We had the much-maligned paella - nothing special but perfectly acceptable for lunch and the house rosé was also fine.
