A good choice for a reasonable price

A very imposing building very close to the beach. Friendly stuff, standard room price value is great. Breakfast is standard, nothing special. Parking for 9 € per day very good. A good place for a reasonable price. Aircon is working well, the beds are comfortable, it’s clean and quiet.

I have stayed in 1000's of motels and hotels from Australia to Zurich. 1 star to 6 stars, and I have never had one these hotels that did not have a fridge, tea and coffee set up key alone an alarm clock! This is the weirdest set up, not even an iron! Yes it sits in a great location yes the rooms are large but why are there no amenities in the room?

The facade is run down and the buffet breakfast is cringeworthy- the front of house staff are Very Helpful- the night staff could not care less about your needs. The WIFI is appalling and constantly drops out- I was here for 7 nights and I could hardly conduct business- it is not up to standard for even menial emails.
The rest of the hotel is a ghost town, there appears to be minimal staff yet scores of "Gendarmerie" crawling around the buffets and corridors every day. Why is this so?

Room tip: Get room facing the gardens and away from the fist floor

A fine old Belle Époque hotel overlooking Menton, with a garden in front, full of citrus trees, separating the hotel from traffic noise in that direction. While the facade remains very fine, otherwise it has to be said that the interior has largely lost its antique character. The ground floor reception area is modern and a bit second rate and the first floor restaurant, though it retains echoes of the hotel’s history, is sadly a buffet arrangement.
We had a room a few floors up, facing the sea, with a small balcony. It was quiet and comfortable (king size bed). Clean bathroom with a good shower, though perhaps the wc seemed a bit close to the bed.
The positives are that the hotel is relatively inexpensive, quiet and right in the centre of Menton and you can walk easily to the sea, up into the old town and to the many, admittedly not terribly exciting, dining possibilities. If you feel like it, you can also walk along the water into Italy (approx one hour - don’t forget your passport).
The hotel offers excellent covered parking within the building. In addition, it also offers interesting-sounding group day trips from the hotel - eg to explore the architecture and history of nearby places like Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Set in wonderful grounds, this hotel has a lot to offer. Our room was upgraded to a garden view room which looked recently renovated. The hotel is very clean and in a great location, a short stroll to the promenade but enjoys a peaceful situation away from the main traffic thoroughfare. Breakfast was good. My only gripe was that the ‘24 hour bar’ appeared to be run by whoever was also working on the reception desk outside of what appeared to be 6pm to 9pm. This meant only certain drinks were available between these times. 17:45 we wanted a mojito before heading out to dinner but had to wait until the barman turned up at 18:00 as the receptionist couldn’t make cocktails. 21:15 we wanted an Irish Coffee but the man working on the reception said he could not make it despite it being on the drinks menu. I think if customer expectations were correctly set, 24 hr bar but with some drink restrictions outside certain hours, we would not have been so dissatisfied. I would however still recommend this hotel and would stay here again if visiting Menton.

Although you can stay at hotels by the sea you can then suffer with the noise at night. This hotel is set in a lovely garden and is very peaceful. It is an easy walk into town. The railway station is a 6 minute walk away which takes you direct to Monaco or into Italy.

We arrived early and were allowed to leave our luggage to go and explore the town. There are many great places to eat and

Menton is set in truly beautiful surroundings with the sea at the front and mountains at the back.

We had to check out at 12 but left our luggage again to retrieve it before our train journey. Staff are great and speak perfect English as well as other languages.
