A typical french bar serving lunches which was reasonably priced staffed by pleasant staff who whilst appreciating our attempts at the language could speak enough english to be able to clarify the menu. Really enjoyable.

We walked from Menton to Cap Martin on the Promenade de Soleil -- about a mile and a half maybe. Our amble was to take in the gorgeous sunlight on the Mediterranean, and stop for lunch before heading back. We passed a number of nondescript cafes, until we spied this one from a block away, and knew that this was it. Jayne had an omelette and I the filet, with frites. You couldn't ask for a better prepared meal in any restaurant. We gawked at the other meals ordered by the lunchtime crowd, and they looked to be equally as mouth-watering. The desserts were also exquisite. One of the best meals in the area for the price, especially since Le Spinnaker in Menton closed. For those to whom this would mean something, it's a bona fide "Local."

Not the usual greeting one expects from "Le Patron." Surrounded by work people on a Monday lunchtime we understand his comment. Not surprisingly they gravitate here for good hearty food, reasonably priced. Arrive early or risk missing the plat du jour. This place is unpretentious and with a good glass of wine costing just 1.30 you will not go wrong.
It is back from the beach, just above the rail line on the one way route with traffic coming from Monaco.
