“Chez mon coeur”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

My favorite inn on the Earth. All one could wish for in the heart of the French soul. Go, be at peace, receive the nature of the care as it is offered, be grateful, and you will be at the place of my heart. Intimate rooms, world renowned art collection, renowned gracious classic restaurant, casual old money attitude, aesthetics and atmosphere, cool pool, charming bar, classic terrace overlooking the beloved walled city of Saint Paul de Vence at the valley below toward Nice, Petanques by the beloved men if the Ville as you leave the gate of the inn, chez mon coeur.

Room Tip: Let the Hotel Family and Staff choose for you. Simply enjoy the grace of classic Southern France at...

I love this place. we had been here several times, mainly for borthday celebratory lunches on the terrace. Fabulous.

This time we decided to stay over and ate in the restaurant.
This is a unique hotel, with many beautiful quirky touches. All the staff we met seemed very happy to be working there, the room was just beautiful ...all in all a wonderful experience and a million miles away from those luxury chains .

A totally magical place, wonderful history and ambiance, fantastic staff, in the beautiful St Paul de Vence. We have been several times, and will continue to go back, for all of the above, but do be prepared to find that the food is often not memorable....it is good regional fare (far from the nouvelle cuisine that you might expect, but which, by the way, I hate!) but it is just not spectacular....But who cares, sitting inside surrounded by priceless art, or on the glorious terrace under an ancient fig, on a warm summers evening, it's glorious. It is fairly pricey too, but again I forgive it all that! I know this sounds like a crazy restaurant review....please go! We haven't yet been for Sunday Lunch...I have heard that this is a real must.....DO book any meal far in advance....they are always booked solid! We haven't stayed in the holel (we have a house nearby) but friends have told me the rooms are lovely.

La Colombe d'Or is an institution: full of history, it has evolved wonderfully well over the past 80 years into a very special place. It's the best possible place to see priceless works by a host of modern masters. The internal spaces, centred around the perfectly proportioned, quite sensationally beautiful restaurant, are very special - most notably the sunken 'lounge' where you can sip aperitifs before dinner - and perfectly lit. The main staircase abounds with well-displayed art works of all sorts: not only only paintings but sculptures and stained glass. Indeed all over the hotel and its grounds there are all sorts of artistic surprises including a metal Miro sculpture overlooking the huge swimming pool (heated to 27 degrees). Our balconied deluxe room looked out over towards the mountains and was very comfortable - the bed was huge, the bedlinen was crisp and very comfortable. The bathroom, newly tiled, was large enough; its heated floor was welcome in February. Throughout our stay we were served with courtesy and exemplary efficiency. Breakfast (lovely fruit bowl, good jambon blanc, decent coffee) arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and can be taken wherever you want. Our car was parked for us and was available almost instantly on request, as were towels by the pool. La Colombe d'Or does not offer the very highest level of luxury, but the atmosphere, the sense of history and the sheer beauty of the place (inside the hotel, the terrace and gardens - from the outside you would not guess what lies within) should on no account be missed, despite the steep prices, which are, for once, well worth paying.
It's worth knowing also that the hotel is right at the entrance to St Paul. You walk from the hotel right into town - perfect positioning.

Room Tip: Rooms vary quite a bit. If you want sun, choose a room with a view towards the town. For mountain vi...

La Colombe d'Or is simple to describe: It is a sacred place for the art lover. Yes, it is a nice hotel but the story of the place makes it totally unique. The brochure of the hotel is itself 300 pages full of stories and art works.

It is one of the places that you should go and stay at least once in yourlife. And you will probably go back.

Nowhere else in the world you can get so close to real art. In my room there was a Picasso. By the way he was not such a bad person!:)

I have been dining here for years but never stayed until now and I wasnt disappointed. its rustic chic , and full of course of incredible art , that never fails to make you go gooey with delight. This is such a romantic place , very calm and charming and for me a little spiritual too. The place is intimate , and it has repeat customers who come back again and again and I can totally see why.
