“Best stay ever”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

We stayed in this lovely property in early October and it was one of the best holidays we've ever had. My wife kept saying it's our second honeymoon. Hotel is very conveniently located between Nice and Antibes. It has a lovely view of the sea and the old town. The house itself is very simple yet nicely decorated - it gives the impression of light and sophisticated space. And the owners - super nice. John is a riot with his drinks events in the evening and his writing - try to get to know him. Ann is very nice and always helpful.
We truly enjoyed the whole experience!

I spent 4 days at Villa St Maxime and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. John and Ann are amazing and help with every need including "happy hour" which sometimes runs into several hours. Francoise is a gem. The morning pastries were so delicious and plentiful, I only once had room left in my tummy for John's famous omelettes. The location is perfect. Very close to museum and the village with great shops etc. I stayed in one of the ocean view rooms with bath tub. Everything was wonderful. Peaceful, beautiful and perfect! I can't say enough and would recommend to family and friends.

Room Tip: I loved my ocean view room with terrace and bath tub.

Villa Maxime is perfect place to stay in St. Paul de Vence. John and Ann have taken special care of all possible needs. The Villa is beautiful, modern, wonderful cook-to-order breakfasts; evening apertifs. Staff members Francoise and Laura provide warm smiles and excellent service during morning breakfasts; and they keep the Villa spotless. We enjoyed the comfortable beds and fresh ironed sheets/pillowcases. Our son and his family first visited in 2010 and recommended the Villa, and so we visited 10 days in 2010. We were excited to return for 10 days in 2011 to celebrate Betty’s 70th birthday. John had champagne ready to toast Betty when she came for breakfast. The large Villa Master Suite is a great accommodation, especially for a special occasion (or anytime). Now we anxiously hope to return in 2012. It is a wonderful place to visit. Just to repeat the previous reviews really, great service from John and Ann and all the staff, lending us maps for our days out or umbrellas when rain threatened one night and booking up restaurants most nights. Lovely breakfasts, 5min walk to St Paul de Vence with its long list of wonderful restaurants and art shops. Stayed for 6 nights in room Max-3 which faced the pool and the distant Mediterranean.

Drinks on the terrace works a treat to meet up with other guests, many who have been back repeatedly, not surprisingly. Being on the road into St Paul we were originally concerned about possible road noise, but this did not materialise. Fridge in the room was ideal to keep any nibbles cool when we just fancied a light snack at lunch, or to chill some water or white wine etc.

Hope to be back there soon.

If you are looking for a small hotel with a great location, this is it. Villa St. Maxime is a ten or fifteeen minute walk into the picturesque town of St. Paul de Vence and is a delightful place to stay. Ann and John are friendly and kind hosts who are helpful and enjoy spending time with their guests. Breakfasts are made to order and are delicious. The villa is clean and well-maintained and rooms, views, and indoor and outdoor spaces are lovely. There is a pretty outdoor pool though we did not use it because we were there in late October. We hope to go back some day in the future.

Room Tip: All the rooms are pleasant. You can choose from garden or sea views.

I cannot add much to the previous reviews: suffice it to stay that the house is beautiful, the views are delightful, the location is perfect either for touring the Riviera or for "far niente", and Ann and John are charming and helpful hosts. The only negative aspect: we had to leave for home at the end of our holiday!

Room Tip: Choose a Seaview

If your idea of a great hotel is lots of "facilities" and "attractions" for the family, look away.

No, Villa Maxime is quite simply one of the best small hotels that we have ever stayed in, mainly because it has a simple formula of excellent service, fantastic location (10 minutes walk to St Paul de Vence) and add-ons that really make a difference. This is all rounded of with outstanding hosts.

It has a small number of excellent rooms, some with breathtaking views of the surrounding area and the sea. This encourages guests to mingle, as do the pre-dinner drinks!

We are not used to returning to hotels, but I can say without any hesitation that will do our best to return to Villa Maxime, hopefully regularly. My only concern is that this and other reviews will make it difficult for us to return when we would like as the hotel will be full.

Room Tip: Talk to the hostess by phone before booking to understand the rooms

The Villa enjoys an airy modern feel, while retaining a comfortable and intimate ambience, with great views of the village and the sea.
