Fantastic location in the heart of Chamonix - a quick walk to top restaurants and less than 3 minutes to the ski bus! Charming Alpine-esque decor, good sized rooms and beautiful common areas. Good sized ski room with decent lockers for each room and nice pool/hot tub area perfect for apres ski. Speaking of apres ski - great spread set out each afternoon/early evening with a nice selection of cakes, savoury appetizers. The lounge in the back is a great place to reconvene after the day and make evening plans.

Very nice staff who were incredibly helpful on booking restaurant reservations, answering ski questions, getting tickets, lessons etc.

A few lessons learned about the hotel and chamonix:
1. Eggs at breakfast are included - not readily apparent from the menu but we had scrambled eggs and omelettes as part of breakfast. (some people have commented on the price of breakfast but I thought the buffet was very ample and good value)
2. If your party has a mixed variety of skiing abilities, le Tour or Les Houches are the best bets.
3. Intersport ski rental location delivers and picks up from the hotel! and you get a 20% discount as a guest - nice!
4. Altitude sickness exists :( - our entire party almost passed out and/or threw up when we took the cable car up to the Aguille du Midi. yuck!!

My wife and I have holidayed extensively in chamonix over the past 10 years and since the grand hotel opened we have always wanted to stay their, it never disappointed. Firstly we were pleasantly surprised and pleased to be offered an upgrade to a Brevent Family Suite, wow, the room was divine. The location of the hotel is very central to all the shops, restaurants, bars and the Brevent nursery slopes and main lift system from Chamonix town. We never used the hotel for our breakfast as we thought 20 euro,s per person was excessive and their were plenty of other options into want less than half that price. One benefit that the hotel doesn't advertise is the complimentary cakes and snacks between 4-6 pm. Will be booking again next winter.

The Grand Hotel des Alpes proved an ideal base for our recent week long family break in Chamonix. Our stay was definitely enhanced by the hotel’s commendable staff - Katia, Coralie, Franciose and Natalia who looked after us very well from our initial booking until our departure, answering all enquiries, sorting out our ski hire and making excellent restaurant recommendations and appropriate transport bookings for us throughout the week.

The location of the hotel was ideal. The Grand Hotel des Alpes is right in the heart of Chamonix, and has a bus stop that takes you to all the major ski runs very close by.

We found the hotel itself very pleasant. It had a delightful ambiance, somewhat reminiscent of a dignified but friendly alpine club, and our rooms were comfortable and well maintained during our stay. The breakfast served was comprehensive, and the afternoon tea and pre-dinner offerings were often welcome after a day on the slopes.

We will happily return to the Grand Hotel des Alpes!

My brother and I had where lucky enough to 'escape' for a long weekend, so made a very last minute booking. Called the hotel 11pm the night before, and Coralie and her manager were very helpful, and thus secured our booking.

The hotel offered to book "Mountain Drop Off" at 30 euro each way, which was fantastic. However in the end we cancelled this as it did not work out time wise the best option for us as our flight landed early, and the Chamonix local ski transfer bus was sitting there ready to depart... so we jumped on (same price). But I am sure the Mountain drop off would have been worth waiting for as overall the bus journey does a couple of stops and is a little slower etc. SO next time will use the "Mountain Drop off" (Definately took ages with Chamonix bus coming back as they did several more pick ups, and stopped in Geneva to drop off)

HOTEL:
This hotel has a lovely old charm style, with sophifistication, yet a friendly atmosphere.
Several requests for additional items were brought immediately. Reception staff even charged an electical item for me.

Breakfast was am additional cost. Just through rushing though we only took breakfast once, and this was a usual hotel 4 star breakfast. (GOOD)

AFTERNOON Tea:-is offered from about 4pm, which was stunning.. and then at 6pm a table in the foyer was set with substantial delicious savoury nibbles.

I think this hotel does not offer dinner. This was fine for us, as so many restaurants on your door step, but thought I would point it out.

Pool/spa sauna area is sufficient, but sometimes I think the whole "spa procedure" is all a bit over rated anyway, as a nice hot shower or bath in your room is just as good anyway, and less hassle! However in saying that we did enjoy the steam room. I have previoulsy stayed in a hotel with an outside hot pool which was amazing.. this hotel sadly didnt have one of these!)

Ski hire shop "Intersport" offered discount if you stayed at this hotel, and delivered and collected ski's to hotel.

Getting to slopes:-
We took the ski bus for two days (30 mins) to "Le Tour" ski area, which was divine, and then on day three the nearest ski slope to about a 15 min walk or ski bus ride 5 mins to "Brevent-Flegere" and this also was amazing.

Clearly there is a bit of effort needed to reach the slopes, but it is impossible to have it all. The location for bars/ restaurants shops etc makes it great for the late afternoon, evening hours... of which if you are up for it... some bars are open with fab live bands until 5am !

When we arrived we foolishly took a taxi to the hotel which cost 15 euros, so on departure we walked to the station easily with our bags, (10 min walk)

Loved Chamonix, loved the skiing, and thought this hotel was very lovely.
The hotel is in a fab position, shops/bars/restaurants on the door step.
Would definately stay again. I have two boys age 8 and 6, and wouldnt hesitate to bring them to this hotel either. I am sure it is child friendly!
Enjoyed the Hot Choc too... thanks to Coralie!

I think this hotel is a "four star." Don't know why. Our experience was five star from start to finish. The front desk service was top notch (Coralie). The breakfast was fantastic. The location was superb - we had a breathtaking view of the river and Mt Blanc from our balcony... where we enjoyed a bottle of wine and watched the sunset. Our favorite hotel in the Alps (having spent 10 nights hiking the Tour de Mt Blanc). Luxury, comfort, kind service.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony and/or facing the river. There are rooms that face the main pedestrian thoroughfare...

This was the perfect hotel to recover from jet lag and prepare for our trek on the Haute route. The hotel has all the modern upgrades but indeed, does have the total Swiss charm. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. Our room was a corner room on the top floor of the center tower, with windows looking over the main downtown street and also facing Mont Blanc. It was quiet most of the time, warm and cozy with incredible views. The bed was very comfortable with fresh linens and large inviting duvets. The front desk even let me borrow one of their laptops when mine had some issues - not only borrow, but take to my room for the evening! The bathroom was not large, but did have a large walk in shower with plenty of hot water! Everything was spotlessly clean. We loved our stay here and could have stayed for a month! The price we were quoted originally was a bit high, but we were able to negociate an acceptable rate and were glad we decided to go with it!

This is my dream hotel. This hotel was totally modernised in 2005 and has the enviable combination of having all the modern facilities one expects in a comfortable hotel without losing the old world charm of the original. The staff couldn't be more helpful or welcoming. The bedrooms are well laid out, spacious but cosy, with super comfortable beds. The breakfast is excellent - plenty of parking underneath and good drying facilities for skiiers. This is the perfect hotel for honeymoon couples or for a luxurious get away in the French Alps. The hotel is situated right in the town centre, near shops and restaurants. I hope I'm lucky enought to go back there som day. I stayed as part of a group so can't comment on whether or not it is excellent value for money - but I'm sure it must be!
