I travel over 150+ nights a year for work and have status at all the major hotel chains but found the Villa Florentine on some luxury hotels of Lyon website and decided to take a gamble on a boutique hotel. I was very glad I did.

Villa Florentine sits up on a hill just below the famous cathedral of Lyon. A former abbey/cathedral turned all girls school turned hotel, the history of the buildings is quite interesting. Yes, I said buildings as there are two connected by a bottom floor indoor passage. The Main building holding most of the rooms, while the second building has some rooms, spa, steam room, gym, and sauna. The pool is open year round, kept at 26c and hot tub at 35c which was nice on a cold winters night. Downside was that the restaurant was closed the first two weeks of January so we couldn’t try that out (we heard good things).

The rooms were nice, albiet small. We went for the standard or classic room. Large king size beds and decor was nicely appointed. Beautiful view of all of Lyon out our window. My two biggest complaints with the room were 1) the toilet is in a separate room across the bedroom from sink, shower, and bedet making for some awkward walks across the room, and 2) its an old building so sound proofing is difficult. We heard every move and noise in the room next to us.

The service was the best part of the whole stay. Everyone spoke English which was great because we didn’t speak any French except for a few broken phrases. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The concierge gave excellent dinner reservations and places to visit... but the best part were the free coffee, pastries and cookies available in the morning!!! Yum!!

As Villa Florentine is on a hill, be prepared for stairs. There are lots of stair passages to get up and down to the city center... but coming back up the stairs is not for the faint of heart. Needless to say, you’ll work off a lot of the delicious meals Lyon has to offer coming back up.

All in all, it’s a Great boutique hotel with a great staff. Would definitely stay there again!!

The hotel is located on top of a hill, ideal to visit the old town and the rest of Lyon by foot.
We stayed in the junior suite for two nights. The room was very clean, nicely decorated and had an amazing view of the old town as well as the city of Lyon.
The breakfast area is very outdated, the food was ok but not great. The waiter was very rude.
The staff at the bar and reception were helpful and nice.
It is a charming hotel that I would recommend for a short/romantic stay in Lyon.

We arrived very late but the services and the attention paid by the staff was great since the very beginning. We were with our small baby with horrible influence and we have been assisted in any needs during all the 3 days we spent there. We got also a very professional and warm babysitting to allow us to have a dinner in the charmant restaurant. Breakfast rich and very good well. The structure is romantic and efficient. But the 5 stars service by the staff is the most relevant asset of the hotel.
You will feel staying your home

Villa Florence exceeded our expectations in every way. It's a beautiful small Hotel with every detail in perfect order.

The Hotel itself is in a fantastic
position overlooking the city. Close to everything, yet peaceful and quiet.
The interior spaces are warm and inviting and the remaining few touches of the former Convent integrate well into the scheme.
The Staff is extremely accommodating and polite. The Concierge took care to make sure all of the Dinners and activities we planned would be confirmed by him personally on our arrival, and the rest of the Staff was equally enthusiastic about the property and whatever they could do to familiarize us with the facilities, Fete des lumieres, and Lyon itself.
The pool, spa, sauna and heated chaises were a marvelous place to relax after walking all day in poor weather (and uphill to the Hotel).
Breakfast was lovely and very convenient that it's served from early morning until 11:00 AM-so regardless of early or late wake up time we could enjoy it. The selection of juices, fruits, cereal, pastry, yogurt, plus cooked to order items were abundant. One of the more thoughtful details of the Breakfast space was the addition of mirrors framing the windows which provided a much more expansive view over Lyon.
The Bedroom was comfortable and even though the property was completed a while ago --and exhibiting a touch of a patina--the classic Italian style still has a nice ambiance as well as supplying all the practical amenities.
Housekeeping was also very attentive to the facilities even though we hardly saw their Staff-their presence was obvious with the excellent condition of our Room and the Hotel.
We loved Villa Florentine. It was a marvelous stay and a positively amazing Guest experience because of the Staff.

We took a train from Paris to Lyon to spend a couple days experiencing the best restaurants Lyon had to offer. From the moment we stepped into Villa Florentine, you knew it was something special. First of all, the views were insane. The staff made sure our stay was wonderful. We even snagged a booking at Paul Bocuse thanks to the staff. Our room was amazing, well appointed, and equipped with a huge bathroom and separate sauna. The views from this junior suite were incredible! We definitely have to come back and stay longer.
