What a gem!
It's a short walk from the train station (exit through the station, not at the stairs to the street-level at the end of the platform.)
We used this as our base to explore Freiburg, Strasbourg, France and Basel, Switzerland.
Everyone on staff was so helpful and sweet to us. Easy to speak to and nothing was too much of a bother. Change, Laundromat recommendations, ice, directions. It was like they wanted us to have the best possible time!
The hotel is so convenient to everything! A short walk up the street takes you to the Muenster (Cathedral) and the square, where there's a fresh market 6 days a week. Tons of shopping and dining.
Next to the hotel, is a CVS-type drug store, selling sundries, some food and drinks, cosmetics and household items/baby stuff. Next to that is a natural grocery store with a bakery. Neither of these has "unhealthy" snacks. No chips, or candy.
There's an Edeka half a block up the street and it's a grocery store. US quarters will work to release a shopping cart! They have a bakery, coffee, sandwiches, and ready to heat deli items, in addition to being a whole grocery store! Here's where you can get your snacks!
Behind the Edeka, is a great asian food joint and a hookah lounge! Next to the hotel is an Italian Bistro, that's open on Sunday, across the street is a coffee shop, and an Apothecary, where you can buy OTC drugs you may need. We got 5 litres of Distilled water there.
The rooms are amazingly quiet. No hallway noise, no street noise. the beds are comfy, although I prefer them slightly harder. There's a mini-fridge in the room, and an electric kettle with instant coffee and powdered creamer. I brought a coffee cone and filters, and made pour over in the room. We got mugs from Reception, rather than use the paper mugs in the room. Bought cream and coffee and breakfast nibbles at Edeka.
We ate on-site a couple of nights and both meals were very large portions of fresh and delicious food.
Freiburg is pretty quiet on Sunday with most places being closed. We went to Basel Switzerland and checked out the Zoo, which is open 365 days per year.
