The location was beautiful, it was snowing as we found the hotel this just added to the experience. We had reserved two rooms for four people. We ended up with an extra person and they didn't hesitate to accommodate with a room with an extra small bedroom that was attached. The rooms were comfortable. The view of Garmisch below and the German Alps breath taking.

We spent there only one night in the hotel in order to relax. We chose this hotel because it had a spa.

postive points:
- service staff is nice
- room was quite big
- free parking lot in front of the hotel

negative points:
- coordiors looks old and wasted
- hotel makes the impression of bening half abandond
- the turkish bath was broken
- parts of the spa don‘t look good anymore

The room itself was quite fine. It was clean and spacy. A bit dissapointing was the free use of the mini bar. It only had to bottles of water in it. The turkish bath in the spa didn‘t work. and parts of the spa look very old and wasted. Some parts of the hotel were under contruction and not many peole were staying there. that gave us a very creepy atmosphere.

One night is enough there and the next time we will choose another hotel in GAP.

Dear guest,

thank you very much for your feedback. We are glad you mentioned the nice service staff and enjoyed the clean and spacy room but we are sorry that you judge about the rest depending on the impressions from only one night. It is right that at the moment the hotel is not fully booked every day and we are using this quiet time to clean and renovate parts of the hotel which are closed then. The Turkish bath opens in the afternoon or on demand even earlier due for environmental reasons.

Maybe you would like to give the Riessersee Hotel another chance in the main season, maybe you will like this even better.

Best regards,

This hotel was a great choice. The hotel came with very courteous reception and upon a rare incident of the hotel room door not working properly quickly rebooked and upgraded the room. The hotel has a great staff and great amenities, the Spa has numerous options for swim, sauna, massage, weights and much more and the hotel breakfast was great!!! A little difficult to get around if weather isn’t great but taxi is quick and on a nice day the hike into town wouldn’t be bad. If into hiking there are many trails right from the hotel which explore some of the Olympic sites in Garmisch!!

The obvious and appreciable loveliness of Garmisch, Germany is certainly the central focus of a stay at the Reisersee Hotel Resort. Situated on a glorious (and refreshing, jump right in!), sparkling mountain lake, the surroundings are enough to restore the most weary of traveling souls.
The vistas include higher mountain peaks on the lake side, with a wide sweeping valley below on the other side. Although my friends and I came here solely for relaxation, it's clear the place is also popular for mountain-bound recreation travelers, like hikers, climbers and bikers.
The resort itself has amenities pretty well aligned with my expectations of European travel. Air-conditioned rooms were limited to suites & were unfortunately booked for the length of our stay. We had some minor room issues in-line with an older hotel - like nonexistent water pressure in one sink and an odd TV that refused to respond to any sort of input, even to turn it OFF. However, the resort staff was SO wonderful, caring, helpful and responsive, that some of these minor disappointments/issues were easily forgiven!
We enjoyed other great areas of the hotel, like the bar and family game areas, though we were too busy doing other tourist activities to take advantage of any spa offerings. My friends did engage one of the pedalboats available and reported a fun day on the lake. Also, the breakfast buffet here is PHENOMENAL and not to be missed!!!
I wish you good weather on your visit to fully absorb all the natural beauty the Reisersee has to offer. This is absolutely worth making a destination on your itinerary!

We booked this hotel through Expedia as there seemed to be no benefit at all to book directly with the hotel.

We first came to Garmisch in 1988 and visited the lake. We don't remember seeing the hotel but remember the restaurant at the lake. We had promised ourselves that we would return one day and this would be the year. We booked 5 nights in the hotel and when we booked we saw that the spa was being renovated and would be completed by the 31st July.

The day before we arrived we received an email from the hotel stating that they were renovating the pool for us and it would be ready by the 31st August!! Really, I was sure when we booked that it was the 31st July. What were we supposed to do? See if we could cancel and find another hotel. This was not a good start at all.

We arrived and could not find anywhere to park so my wife went into reception just to get some direction on where to park as it wasn't clear if we needed a ticket. She ended up being checked in and was then told where we could park. During check in she was also given two drink vouchers as way of compensation for the spa being out of order. Two free drinks for a specific cocktail. Really! Some discount off the price of the hotel would have been more realistic seeing as one of the main features was unavailable.

We hoped we would be lucky and have a room overlooking the lake. We were not lucky and instead had a room with a view over the car park and towards Garmisch. The room was quite nice and had a balcony. It seemed clean and well maintained.

Breakfast on the first morning was a disaster. We were there about 09:00 and we waited at the entrance so we could be checked in. We waited for about 5 minutes and after seeing lots of other guests walk in and do their own thing we did the same even though we saw a message to wait to be checked in. Unfortunately there was no space that we could see inside so sat outside. Big mistake. There were so many wasps that it made the breakfast experience horrendous. I appreciate the hotel is not in charge of the wasps but they were everywhere.

The remaining breakfasts were excellent. There was a wonderfully cheerful lady to welcome us and take our room details. All the staff on these days were excellent, no complaints. The choice of food and drink was very good and plentiful.

Now to the room and specifically the bathroom. On the first day we went for a run and when we came back needed to freshen up. It was then that we noticed that we only had one bath towel. Luckily the cleaner was outside the room and after unloading the trolley that was loaded with sheets she managed to find us an extra towel which should have been in the room when we arrived. The following days when the room was cleaned we ended up with no flannels and no bath mat. Every day was different and something else was missing.

When we visit hotels we always use the stairs once we have checked in. Trying to use the stairs in the hotel was a challenge. Which ever way we went we ended up either in a dead end or with some sign taking us back the way we came. We gave up and just used the lift. If there had been a fire we would have had no idea how to get out.

We only used our car once during the stay and walked into Garmisch at least once a day. The walk is ok if you are reasonably fit and takes around 20-30 minutes. We also walked around the lake and to the ski lift to go up the Alpspitze.

On our last evening we decided to stay in the hotel and eat. We went over to the restaurant at the lake and waited at the entrance to see if we could look at the menu. We waited at least 5 minutes and eventually were given a menu by an unhelpful waiter. We didn't eat there and instead went to the hotel bar where we could use our free drink vouchers. The barman told us we could only use it for the cocktail that neither of us wanted. He then said we could use them for a beer instead. So as compensation for the spa being out of action we ended up with two beers. Brilliant customer service. #sarcasm. We ordered some food which ended up being delivered from the restaurant at the lake. The food was ok.

On checking out we were told there was nothing to pay even though I checked. Just as we walked out the door we were called back as we hadn't paid the city tax. I was sure I had just asked if there was anything we had to pay.

One final thing. The pictures for the hotel and especially the restaurant are a little misleading. I thought that breakfast was in the restaurant by the lake with the wonderful views. This is not the case at all. You can see the view from breakfast which is in two of the pictures. They are the ones looking out to a patio with tables and chairs.

Would we go back? Not to this hotel. We love Garmisch and the surrounding area though.
