“What a great little hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

Stayed here in dec 2010, after having escaped the blizzard in New York City. The hotel is clean, inexpensive, and efficient. The subway is half a block away. The center of town (marienplatz) is a 10-15 minute walk away, with lots of shopping, eating along the way. If you get a city view room , you will get a nice view of the rooftops of the center of munic. While we were there, i would get early enough to catch the soft light of morning, and just look out th window, as it snowed softly over the spires and towers of Munich -- such a pretty postcard sight! Breakfast is basic but fresh, and as light or as hearty as you want. Got great wi-fi in the room. Staff is helpful and accomodating. Our luggage got lost in that massive global air mess caused by the weather, but it found its way to Motel One Sendler Tor, and the staff held it safe until we got there. I would stay here again, and unhesitatingly recommeng this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the city center

Stayed for one night, the place is relatively easy to find, and enjoys an excellent location just next to the Sendlinger Tor, and a few minutes walk away from some friendly cafés, shopping and hangout areas, and literally 2 minutes from the U- and S-Bahn stations. It is advisable to book a parking space in the underground parking if you want one - it fills up fast. The front desk staff is OK if a little stiff despite being young.
The rooms are what you'd expect, spotlessly clean, very modern, and the turquoise-colour scheme is everywhere obvious. Bed is large and comfortable. One may find fault with the following things: 1) the bathroom follows the trend of style over practicality, though not quite as hysterically is with other reviewed hotels of this category. Specifically, the unmovable glass partition of the bathtub/shower is extremely inconvenient; and the silly sink which juts out of its supporting base means you have very little space to put your belongings around it. When will designers realise that bathrooms are like kitchens - if it looks so nice as to be impractical, it's not a good design. Also, soap has been replaced by some fragrant all-purpose lotion. Fine with me but some people may dislike it. But anyway, no big deal. 2) there is no safe in the room. I spent the previous night in a hotel which cost half as much WITH breakfast included, and it had a safe. This is really a basic amenity, especially for a tourist hotel. 3) no closing cupboards; so with neither this nor a safe, one is left with no choice but to leave one's belongings all over the room and in the open. This serves neither from nor function and is a bit annoying, but OK for a one-night stay... 4) Breakfast not included - given the price of the breakfast, the offer is a bit poor. First of all, one eats breakfast in the lobby - no doubt this is why it's called a "motel" rather than a hotel. There are only boiled eggs, only one kind of bread, only one kind of juice, and a meagre selection of cheese and meat. None of it is bad, but it feels really stingy.
Overall, I'd say the location is fantastic for a city break, the hotel is in a quiet side-street and feels safe and pleasant, but more than a night or two here and the small gripes will become annoying. For the price, I'd say it's possible to find something less pretentious and more practical.

Stayed for two nights
Reception staff very helpful and friendly on check in.
Rooms are very clean, well decorated and the bathroom fittings are first rate.
No safe in the room but adequate storage ( there's a small clothes rail huffed behind one side of the very comfortable bed )
Location is superb, right near to trams, underground and trains and an easy walk to the centre. There are several cafes near by if you don't take the hotel breakfast .
Bar is nice and the lobby modern and comfortable.
The official rating is 2 star but the hotel is better than many 4 star. Unbelievable standard for the price.
This was our first experience of motel one, if this hotel is typical of the brand then motel one will be my first choice in future.

I paid 69 euros, single for one night, without breakfast. Positives: nice modern hotel, clean and comfortable room, good shower, nice bed. Cons: no soap in bathroom, why??? no telephone, no safe, Internet is 5 euros a night when its free in most Hotels and you have to go downstairs to obtain, no minibar (I woke up gasping of thirst in the middle of the night and had to get dressed and go downstairs to get some water), 2 lifts for the whole hotel, which means at busy times you have to wait a while for a lift, which when arrived was full.

It is a nice place to stay and is close to the Marienplatz. A fair walk from the main station though! But it really is missing some basic facilities, and on that I just dont understand why the hotel is rated so highly.

I stayed here for 4 nights during Christmas 2011. It's a small basic hotel with stylish decor, the room is very clean and bed is comfy. Breakfast is ok. Staff is cheerful and helpful. Excellent location, right in front of a metro station and Marienplatz (where the main Christmas Market is) is just 5 mins away on foot.

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions usually for 2 or 3 nights as a family (wife and child in cot) or by myself. After checking out many other hotels or B&Bs, this hotel is now the first choice when returning to Munich.
The rooms are well decorated, modern albeit relatively small. That said if you only plan on sleeping there, want a great location, at a great price then you cant go wrong checking in at Motel one.

Some observations:
1) Small but nice decorated rooms (with the possibility to open your window but hardly any space to store your clothes),
2) good location (only 10 minutes walk to Marienplatz),
3) breakfast is served every morning in the lounge. There is however not enough space for everyone. Breakfast is basic but ok (cooked eggs, different kind of rolls/croissants, no fresh juice, cereals, fruit salad, ham and cheese),
4) If you include breakfast in your room price you receive free WIFI,
5) somewhat strange service rules (e.g. it was not possible to have an extra pillow and there is no soap in the bad room),
6) helpful staff.
Conclusion: good price/quality. Would stay here again.
