“Good value and reasonable location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2011

Stayed 3 nights to enjoy the Christmas markets and a day trip to Salzburg as a treat for hubby's birthday. Chose this hotel on price and location as we really only wanted somewhere comfortable to sleep and it was good value. The hotel is close to the metro station where there are a few cafes and shops. Only a 15 min walk to Marienplatz with lots to see on the way. The receptionists were friendly enough when we asked for anything and got us extra pillows and replaced the bulb in bedside lamp as soon as we asked. There is tea, coffee, water, buns, biscuits and fruit freely available all day in the residents lounge in the foyer. Welcome when you come in on a chilly evening or as a very light breakfast in the morning. We knew there was not a kettle in the room so took one with us for the essential cup of tea first thing in the morning. (Hubby still got up to make it even though it was his birthday treat!) We didn't purchase breakfast in the hotel so can't comment on the value. The rooms are comfortable enough but I found the bed too firm so didn't sleep all that well. They stored our luggage as we arrived early and left late. All in all it was a comfortable stay and very good value.

Nice hotel, near Engilsh Garden, in city center.
Nice if you have no car, near tram and metro station.
The room is nice, with good bed. The bathroom is clean and have a bathtub (nice when you came back from a long walk).
I arrived earlier so they locked my backpack in a room.
Staff is very nice.

We stayed in a double standard room for one night, and found the hotel to be okay. The reception is fresh and modern, however the upstairs rooms seem a bit dated, and the doors use keys rather than keycards.

The reception staff were fantastic, very helpful and spoke excellent English. We were able to check in and move into our rooms first thing in the morning, despite official check in being around 2pm.

The double room (two twin beds pushed together) was quite clean, with fresh sheets on the bed, two bedside tables, a tv, desk & chair and minibar fridge, large windows you could open for ventilation (no air con) and good thick curtains that blocked out light. The mattresses were a thick foam, comfortable and soft, and the pillows were lovely, plump and fluffy.

There was a separate foyer area for the closet, luggage rack and bathroom, with a door you could close to shut out any noise from the corridor outside. Bathroom was bright, modern and clean, with a small shower cubicle (& shower curtain), sink, toilet, towels, shampoo/bodywash pump and hairdryer.

Location was okay, took a bit of finding since it was located in the back streets but this meant that there was very little traffic noise at night so that was good. The hotel is 5 mins walk from the beautiful large park that contains the Englischer Garten, and is also a few minutes walk from Lehel U-bahn train station, Hofgarten and Odeonsplatz. Mariensplatz is around 15 mins walk away, or a very short train ride from Lehel station.

Arriving from the Haupfbahnhof main central train station, we walked through Karlsplatz and Mariensplatz to get to the hotel, which was a lovely stroll but took about 45 mins.. would definitely recommend catching the U-bahn from Haupfbahnhof to Lehel and the hotel and setting down your bags before strolling back to Mariensplatz to sightsee!

All in all, it was mostly a good place to sleep, we didn't stay in the room at all during the day and there's not much inside the actual hotel for entertainment. We didn't try the hotel breakfast, instead we wandered out to Marienplatz and the Viktualienmarkt for fresh beer, weisswurst, pretzels and nibbles which were fabulous.

Just a few quick but important notes to add - the hotel reception and front doors are closed around 10:30pm so if you are going to arrive after that time make sure to let reception know in advance so that you'll have a way in. After you have your room key (the hotel uses keys rather than keycards) you can use it to get into the hotel after hours.

Also, we found out later that the room doors don't automatically lock when you close them, so be sure to lock up using your room key every time you leave!

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room that is not facing the carpark. Even with the windows closed, at night y...

We stayed there for one day, and arrived at around 10 pm, and we were lucky to arrive by that time as we were unaware of the fact that the lobby actually is locked by 11 or 10:30 pm every day. If we didn't arrive by that time, we would have been in hell on a rainy day...haha...

overall, the room size was decent, the washroom was large, and clean,
Tv was small but didn't mind that much as we were too tired...
It was a decent room for the price.

takes about 5-10 minutes on foot to the nearest metro, which wasn't that bad..
the hotel is located in a very quiet neighborhood and residential area so we had good night's sleep.

Ok let’s start with the positives, this hotel is reasonably close to the metro system, the room was very clean, bed comfortable and the linen/towels were replaced every day. The room itself was quite small like the TV and the selection of English channels, hope you like CNN! I expected this hotel to be quieter due to its location but the street that it is located in is quite noisy. There is no bar or 24 hour reception at this hotel so you get a key for the main door if you stay out past 11pm.
I would advise all travellers who stay in this hotel not to leave any money in their rooms. A group we knew who were staying in this hotel during the same period had money disappear from their room and subsequently filed a police report about this.

Big room. Close to the city, trains, shops.
Not good with room cleaning or replenishing tea or coffee.
Not very good with directions, however the receptionists always had a pleasant manner.
Over all, if you just need a place to sleep, this is it.

With the exception of the ridiculous and unreasonable internet rates (17 Euros per day) we enjoyed our recent stay at this hotel.

If your luggage is not too heavy and you have robust rolling luggage that can stand being rolled ~400 meters over cobblestones, this hotel is a good choice for travelers arriving by train in Munich. See below for a more detailed set of instructions for arriving by train.

The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very nice although a bit crowded.

Once you are checked in and no longer rolling heavy luggage around, the location of this hotel is really convenient. The main Munich shopping area is a pleasant 15 minute walk. There are convenient stores and services nearby. We liked the San Francisco Coffee Company and the small grocery store across the street at the corner of Triftstrasse and Leibigstrasse.

Arriving by Train with Heavy Rolling Luggage
==================================
1. Get off of your long distance train at Munich Hauptbahnhof. (For example, an ICE train from another major European city) (Note: short regional trains, S-Bahn and subways arrive in a different areas and the path is slightly more complicated.)
2. Walk down the platform to the main boarding area. There is no choice of directions – if you want to get out of the station, you can only walk in one direction.
3. When you get to the end of the platform, as you enter the main boarding area look for the signs for “U4 U5” You should see that these direct you to the right.
4. Follow the signs down the escalators into the subway station.
5. You will now need to buy a ticket. If you are going to be travelling around Munich by subway, the day passes are a good deal. There are 24, 48 and 72 hour options.
6. The more modern ticket machines can accept Visa cards.
7. Regardless of whether you buy a single fare ticket or day pass, before you enter the subway area, you need to initialize the ticket. There little machines about the size of a box of Kleenex that you put the ticket into which stamp the date and time on them. If you have purchased a 24 hour ticket, this date/time stamp is the beginning of your 24 hour period.
8. Once you have stamped your ticket, you can put it in your wallet or some other place where you can find it when you need it. Germany runs on a sort of honor system for subways and busses. You are expected to have a valid and initialized ticket with you. There are random spot checks and fines for people caught traveling without a ticket. Otherwise, however, you can pretty much get on and off trains and buses without anyone particularly checking your ticket.
9. Once you get down to the platform, you will need to determine which side is going towards “Lehel” which is about three stops from Hauptbahnhof. You can take either U4 or U5 because they do not split until after Lehel.
10. German subway doors do not open automatically. You need to pull the handle or press the button on the door when the train arrives to make the door open.
11. When you get out of the train at Lehel, turn left and walk to the end of the platform.
12. Take the escalator up.
13. At the top of the first escalator you will find two more escalators going left and right. Take the escalator to the right,
14. From the top of the escalator continue straight ahead past the convent on your left and the church on your right. (The church is the Pfarkirche Sankt Anna)
15. After about 100 meters, the street ends at Leibigstrasse.
16. Cross Leibigstrasse and a few meters to the left continue in the same direction on Bruderstrasse.
17. After 30 meters or so, the street will turn slightly to the right and you will come to a Vietnamese restaurant which is on the corner of Bruderstrasse and Unsoeldstrasse.
18. Turn right onto Unsoeldstrasse.
19. The lobby of the hotel is just past the Vietnamese restaurant on the right.
