“Good location, but not a 5 star property”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

We stayed at this Sheraton property for four days and three nights. It is located a stone's thrown from the Hauptbahnhof (Central Rail Sation). When you approach the property you see the sign on the building that says five stars or superior. As this review details, that is a bit of a stretch.

The lobby is bright and airy and check-in was very efficient. We were first given a fairly small room with two beds that were so hard you could have bounced a quarter off of the mattress. At my request, we got a room on the same floor which was bigger and were the bed was slightly better. The hotel has four elevators, so there was never a wait to go down to the lobby.

We had the hotel breakfast buffet each morning and we agree with the other reviews that it is very solid. There is a nice selection of juices, teas, rolls, fresh meats and cheeses and breakfast cereals. Also, there is an egg/omelet station and the chef fixing the eggs was very friendly and brought them to the table when they were ready. We also ate in the restaurant one night and the menu, while limited, was good. My girlfirend had the sliced duck and I had the Wiener Schnitzel (veal). Service was attentive and yet unobtrusive.

The hotel has a "spa" on the eighth floor and we each splurged for a treatment. The spa is run by an outside company and while the pricing is reasonable, the experience was average. There really is no waiting area before you go into the treatment room(s) and afterward you share the "cool down" area with those guests using the steam room, sauna or whirlpool (there is no pool). Furthermore, there are only six chairs to relax on, so if it is busy ...good luck.

The lobby has five or six computer terminals that allow you to access the internet. The front desk will give you a code for the first free hour and then there is a charge after that if you want unlimited use. There is a small table by the bar which has free daily newspapers in both English and German. Overall, the front desk staff was friendly but not overly attentive and a tad standoffish at times when we had what I considered simple requests.

In summary, the hotel is solid but when you think five stars in the US you expect something slightly more elevated. As an example, there was no one to really help with the bags and when we asked if they can help us get the two blocks to the train station (we had three bulky bags and no cab will travel that distance), we were told "sorry, we don't offer that service." Hard to believe that we were the only ones to ever make that request. We also heard a guest at check-out mention that the maid had removed his computer cable wheile cleaning the room (on the date he was checking out) and instead of first checking with her, they argued with him for 5 minutes telling him that she would not do this as it would violate policy. Guess what? When they finally checked, he was right and she had indeed done so as she thought the room was vacant. These two small examples are a flavor of why this really is not a 5 star property. Nonetheless, the location is ideal, the food is solid and with the right rate it is a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you take the luggage upstairs.

Booked an overnight stay alone while traveling on business. Given the room type booked (superior double) without any type of enhanced room for SPG Gold, but they honoured my request for a quiet room (facing quiet courtyard at the back, away from elevators). The room was quite plain, but comfortable with 2 lounge chairs + a separate desk chair and a "double" bed with 2 single but good mattresses. The 2 separate duvets were a little small, I used both of them. Parking is low cost (12 EUR I think) in a gated, open-air parking area opposite the hotel, or they also have a garage below the hotel (which probably costs more). Ordered room service and the food was good quality and delivered quite quickly (30 minutes). Requested late checkout (2pm) for SPG Gold and reception accepted it no problem and reprogrammed my key card to expire at 2pm, however, I was awake late during the night working and planned to sleep until 1.30pm but reception called around 12.15pm to see why I was still in the room, which wasn't appreciated. Paid internet access is available in the rooms, but there was no indication of how to access it (it asked for a username and password) - I assume reception knew the details but it should be explained at check-in or in the room. I used Deutsche Telekom paid wifi connection instead (not provided by the hotel). I'm visiting the hotel again in April, hopefully the next stay will be 5/5.

Room Tip: Make a note on the reservation if you want a quiet room, they honoured it for me no problem.

We came to Nuremberg for business, attending the Biofach fair. The hotel is well located 20minutes from the fair grounds. But at the same time it gives you immediate walikng access to the old city and it's sites, restaurants and shopping. Friendly staff, free WiFi, a good restaurant with an amazing buffet for breakfast, a popular bar from afternoon till late evening.
Large rooms and suites, unusual for a city hotel in Europe.
Definitely a good choice.

Room Tip: Suite 518 is very comfortable. Select one of the higher floors

A nice central hotel a short walk from the old town and the railway station. My room had a balcony and a nice view over the rooftops. It was very clean and well appointed. Staff were most warm and friendly. A great big buffet breakfast and although the restaurant was totally full due to some sort of conference the staff coped really well, constantly re-setting vacated tables and keeping the buffet selection replenished - really good job guys!

Very quiet room too - so I was a happy guest!

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have a better view and mine had a balcony.

We (family of 5 with 3 young children) stayed at the Sheraton for 4 nights while visiting the Christmas markets in Nuremberg. The main reason I chose this hotel was that we were able to get 2 connecting rooms. This is the perfect arrangement for our family.
The hotel is well located near the train station and just a short walk from the old city walls. It took about 20 minutes for us all to walk to the Christmas markets.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The beds, pillows, and linens were all of a high standard. The rooms are cleaned each day, and towels and linens changed if you wish.
The breakfast buffet was very convenient and offered a good variety. We also ate dinner in the restaurant a couple times and found the service and food quite good (although a bit expensive). Room service was prompt and tasty.
The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again if I were to return to Nuremberg.

Room Tip: Our friend had a room with a view of the castle- so perhaps ask for a room with a view.

My husband and I spent a couple of days in Nuremberg after Christmas. We chose the Sheraton because of all the good reviews and the spa facilities The location, as was mentioned before, is perfect, next to the railway station and within walking distance to the "Altstadt", the old city, as well as the underground and tram. Parking is very convenient, either at the parking area next to the hotel or the underground carpark. Our room (executive room on the 5th floor) was spotlessly clean, very spacious and equipped with all amenities to make our stay as comfortable as possible - bathrobe and slippers, ironing board, flatscreen TV with a wide range of international channels, complimentary bottle of water every day, etc. And although the railway is very close not a sound could be heard in the room. All the staff are very friendly, well-trained, helpful and efficient. I do recommend a visit to the spa area on the 8th floor - there´s nothing like it at the end of a cold winter day. And you´ll have a wonderful view over Nuremberg, there are windows even in the sauna! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back.
