We ate here the night we stayed at the hotel. The food was absolutely lovely - a Vienna style schnitzel and beef steak - and the wine and beer also good. The service was understated and attentive. Would come again.

We were staying at the hotel for one evening - the last of our holiday - and had reserved a table on the terrace for 8 pm. Germans tend to eat early and the place was almost full. The head waiter showed us to a table in a corner of the garden. It was covered with a cloth, but not laid for a meal. He gave us a menu each and disappeared. Various waiters came and went to nearby tables, but no one came to take our drinks order until 8:35, by which time we were quite hungry, so we asked if we could order our food at the same time. The waiter said "in a minute", and he too disappeared. By 8:50, having failed to induce anyone to bring our drinks by signalling and waving to the waiting staff, my husband got up and approached the head waiter, who went to find the waiter who had taken our drinks order and sent him, with drinks, to our table. Unbelievably, he brought the wrong wine - chilled Chardonnay instead of the bottle of red we'd ordered. Another ten minutes passed until he reappeared with the correct wine and laid the table. We ordered our food and it was finally brought to the table at 9:20. Fortunately we had ordered only one course, so as soon as it was finished we asked for coffee and the bill. Even this took so long that we moved to the indoor bar because it was becoming chilly outside. When the waiter produced the bill, the head waiter came over and said, "As you have had to wait, we insist that you have the coffee free of charge" - clearly imagining that this was adequate compensation for the appalling service and the unremarkable food.

Very poor show, Restaurant Hirsch. You ruined our last evening.

We went here after seeing all the good reviews but were really disappointed. The service was a bit surly and very, very slow. The ambiance was much nicer in the pictures; in real life it is dark and gloomy. The best looking dining rooms are apparently only for large groups. The food was the worst we’ve had on the trip. Nothing horrible but very basic and not as local as promised, offering several dishes with shrimp and ingredients obviously not traditional or from the area. Also knew we were in trouble when an entire tour bus entered and filled one of the four dining rooms!

Being in town for just one night we wanted very much to try something from the local cusine - and hoped to avoid the "tourist traps".
Hirsch turned out to be everything we had hoped for.
Very pleasant service and a cosy interior.
I had the schnitzel with fresh white asparagus, new potatoes and homemade sauce hollandaise - it was amazing.
My boyfriend had the Zwiebelrostbraten med käsespätzl a bavarian speciality and it too was wonderfull.
We shared a strawberry mousse for dessert which turned out to be served with a wonderful brownie and pistachio icecream.
We also had a couple of aperitifs and they too were very tasty.
I would definitly recommend this restaurant if you want well prepared, honest and tasty bavarian food.

We ate in the pub style room and the menu is the same as the more upscale dining room. Very good local food. Service was excellent with English speaking waitress dressed in classic clothing. Food was a good value, especially considering the restaurant is in the middle of the old town.
