Owner description: The museum exhibits in 2 buildings and on 6 floors Germanys most important collection of legal history. The highlight of this museum is its exploration into the unusual law enforcement techniques used by local rulers in medieval and early modern times, such as torture instruments, shame punishments or instruments to execute corporal punishments or death penalties. Numerous displays, original graphics by famous masters as Dürer, Grien and Rembrandt as well as original documents, seals and law books from the 13th - 19 th centuries show the development of law in past centuries. The homes and walls of Rothenburg show visitors the mileau of times gone by without telling much about the lawful circumstances of its residents. Arising questions? Answers can be found in the Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum.

Older kids and teens will love this one, weapons and instruements oof torture galore. If they're not careful they might even learn something.

Very nisch experience, but I loved exploring all of the crazy punishments people used to have to go through, especially the mask collection. Highly recommend a stop here if you're passing through Rothenburg.

We did the Crime Museum with out six year old daughter who found a few bits of it a bit scary but on the whole it was a fun and interesting look into the dark past of the town.

Every time I come to Rothenburg the Criminal museum is a must. Good to see that modern police techniques have changed a bit. Nice documentation of techniques in the medieval ages, and interesting documents from the Middle Ages. Everything displayed is also documented in English. I agree to a previous comment that the museum may be disturbing small children.

My husband is a big history buff....and his ancestors come from Germany, so this museum really captivated his attention. But I .Some of the displays of the various torture contraptions could be disturbing to kids.... but they are so interesting.I'm so glad I live in modern times....whoa... Enjoyed the display of the marriage certificates.
