Owner description: Delve into the surreal world of Salvador Dali, one of the most ingenious and eccentric artists of the 20th century. The museum gives visitors with more than 450 exhibits from private collectors worldwide one of the most extensive insight into Dali's virtuosic & experimental mastery in almost all art techniques, directly in the centre of Berlin. "COME INTO MY BRAIN", Salvador Dali called upon the masses. The permanent exhibition shows works in which he shot with muskets on massive lithostones and invented the Bulletism or artworks where he let explode nail-filled bombs or drove a steamroller over a sewing machine. To facilitate the visitors the way into this fascinating world Dali_Scouts will guide visitors conversationally through the museum in public guided tours which are held almost hourly. Open daily (Mon–Sun): Jan–Jun 12 pm – 8 pm |Jul–Aug 10 am – 8 pm | Sep–Dec 12 pm – 8 pm (last entry 7 pm / Dec 24th closed) Public Guided Tours: 12:30 pm | 2 pm | 3:30 pm | 5:00 pm | 6:30 pm

The entrance fee is high, you're charged extra if you want to take pictures (by the way, the collection does not contain any works that are that spectacular that you would like to take pictures anyway) and the guide is very young and not really an expert.

The collection is fairly large, and shows complete sets of Dali's illustration work. No real "Waauw" moments though.

A dissapointment, really.

Dear DirkvdO,
Thank you for your visit. We would like to explain some of the misunderstandings you seem to have had at our museum. We have over 450 original works by Dalí, e.g. graphics, books, film and sculptures and more. As a private museum without any financial aid by the government we're really happy that we have the opportunity to show all theses original art works to a broad audience.
Thank you again for coming. Your Dalí-Team

I have been in Berlin many times, but this is the first time I have visited the Dali museum. It is a beautiful collection of his less known works. You will see print and drawings.

Thank Charlotte j

Its Dali, so very interesting ... BUT very little information about the works on display (eg few dates, almost no background information of any sort. Many didn't even have a title). Its almost as if they couldn't be bothered. Also, they charge for just about everything it is possible to charge for... so irritating.

Regarding your criticsm that many don't have titles, please let us explain: Dalí always named his art works himself. And if he did not gave single titles to his works (as it is written in our museum on the tags) a reliable museum would never come up with fake titles to satisfy the audience will.

For fans of Dali there are some beautiful pieces to behold in this museum, however be warned the museum itself is rather disappointing. Firstly, the museum is expensive - on top of the inflated entry fee you have to pay for the guide book (not particularly good or relevant to the exhibition) and they even charge a fee to take photos which we thought was especially ridiculous. Getting into the museum the artwork is varied and fascinating, but the lack of information for many of the pieces (not even a name in some cases) was very disappointing. Avoid unless you're a huge Dali fan.

There are over 400 Dali works, including Dante's Divine Comedy. His lithography press and movies are also included. One of the fils included Hitchcock's Spellbound with Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergma. Dali was hired for the delusion sequences. Although it is reported much of Dali's influence was cut because of provocative references. Paying the extra US$7 was worth taking the tour with a guide. We learned a lot that we otherwise would not have known by just walking through the exhibit. The tour guide was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic woman from Wisconsin. Photos are not allowed.
