OXYMORON,
our hotel recommended this restaurant as a cozy place to have lunch for Jan 1st. It is located inside a renovated building complex adjacent to theaters- stores, all in all a very nice frame. The restaurant is centrally located in Berlin Mitte. Lot of people gathered for both extended breakfast as well extended sit-down for lunch and early dinner. Very service minded staff, restroom are located down in the cellar, 15 steps – just be aware. The menu was straight fwd, we enjoyed Maronen Crème suppe, Fjordfonelle and Freilandhuhn all very tasty. The restaurant offers a good selection of beer, wines and the lot. Not to worry. Their coffee is excellent. We enjoy the food, atmosphere and the service. However in this neighborhood there are many other locations I would go for. The price level is moderate to high.

This understated restaurant, hidden off the main strip, was an absolute fantastic find.

The external appearence is very unique, then inside it has an old world charm.

The service was on point, the food exceptional,my wife had"the best kale salad starter, she had ever had" the Pork 3 ways with the blood sausage was sublime.

If you visit Berlin and can get a reservation, you have to eat here.

In the Hackische Markt area many fine places thrive. Oxy is one of them, albeit not new and smart-posh. It resembles an old London club (or Vienna?) with very high ceelings, wooded walls and a old-style ambiente that simply calms you down when you enter. Wether its for a late afternoon tea or an esquisit duck-dinner, or a deligthful menu, this place delivers. Seriously difficult to point any finges here...

To find the place, enter into the "Main entrance" to the Häckische Höfe" on the corner at the end of Rosenthalerstrasse just beside the Nike store.

We ate here last night. Setting is very attractive- beautiful room, comfortable chairs, lovely ambiance. Our server, Mohammed, was most professional and very attentive. Our shared goat cheese appetizer was very unusual in structure (came in 3 levels) but outstanding in flavour. Our mains of fish of the day (Icelandic cod on this occasion) and guinea fowl with risotto were fabulous. Mohammed’s recommended wines by the glass to match were outstanding- all 3 but especially the Weissburgunder which is a grape we rarely see in North America, unfortunately. We have been in Europe 3 weeks at the point and this was, by far, the best meal we have had to date.
