Since 1954 this pub in the middle of the Hardterwald woods north of Rheindahlen has been serving half chickens cooked with a paprika dressing. It was for many years a favourite of RAF personnel at the nearby military base, and I used to go there almost 50 years ago. The chicken is as good as ever, but now they give you a knife and fork to eat it with. You used to have to pull it to pieces with your fingers!
The decor is simple rustic pub. There is a fireplace, and a patio. It seems popular with cyclists who use the local woods, and it has music nights in summer.
The location is very secluded, about 500 yds along a good level dirt road from the nearest tar sealed road.
