My wife and I stayed here for two nights. Hotel is located in the Neustadt area, less than 10 minutes of walk to Old Town. Next to the hotel is the Market Hall area with boutique shops and restaurants. Hotel is also within walking distance to Bautzer/Rothenburger Strasse, Dresden's hip and trendy area with boutiques, eateries, beer pubs, and art galleries.
If seeing palaces, royal jewelries, and regular museums get to be tiresome, try the following in Dresden: (1) Visit the VW factory which offers free tour of its factory. It is located just a few tram stops east of Old Town. (2) Go to the Military History Museum which is just north of New Town with easy access on tram #7 or 8. It showcases not so much about German military history, but why mankind engage in warfare since time immemorial and what we can do about it. (3) Do a day trip to Saxony Switerzland National Park, with amazing limestone formations and great hiking trails. An easy 40 minutes S-Bhan train ride (every 30 minutes) to a little village called Rathen. Neustadt train station is less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel.More
