“Do not miss after your visit to the cathedral”

Iglesia del Sagrario (Church of the Tabernacle)
Reviewed 28 December 2014

This is a mosque that was converted to a Gothic style church, as others have said, with a magnificent centre altar. As is usual fascinating architecture and design. Not to be missed, recommended.

The Church of the Tabernacle has a magnificent main altar. This church is quite small but its altar calls attention because it occupies the whole wall and has the Plateresque style that is very beautiful and elaborate. The church is a good place to hear mass because it is small.

The Church of the Tabernacle has a magnificent main altarpiece that occupies the whole wall of the church. The style of the altarpiece is Plateresque, meaning that it is very elaborate. This style appeared during the late Gothic and early Renaissance periods in Spain and was characterized by designs with plenty of decoration and floral forms. This is one of the best altarpieces in Malaga.

The Church of Santa Maria del Sagrario is located by the Cathedral. It has a Plateresque altarpiece that fills the whole wall and is really a huge art masterpiece. Juan de Balmaseda was the artist and the altarpiece comes from the Church of San Pedro de Becerril de Campos (Palencia).

The Church of the Tabernacle is located by the Cathedral and was built in 1488. The church is small and has only one nave, and this was renovated at the start of the 18th century. The main doorway has plenty of Gothic decoration. The niches have sculptures of the Virgin Mary, the Angel of the Annunciation, the Evangelists, and the Four Fathers of the church.

The original altarpiece was destroyed during the Civil War and an altarpiece came from Palencia. This altarpiece has the Plateresque style, with elaborate decoration. There is also a pulpit made of red marble that dates from the 17th century. There are other gilded altarpieces for the Virgen de Lourdes (17th century), Virgen del Rosario (18th century), San Jose (18th century), Corazon de Jesus (17th century), and the Cristo Mutilado. This little church is full of art.
