Seville has more expensive hotels and I am sure more modern hotels. I know there are cheaper hotels as well. Alcoba del Rey is a good middle ground for people looking for access to all Seville has to offer along with moderate expense and comfortable place to use as tourist central.

As the picture shows, the hotel is more like a riyad than a classic hotel. The Moorish influence is everywhere in the design and accompaniments. We like the North African design so the ambiance just added to our delight being in Seville.

The stop for the circular buses is literally across the street, making it easy to access the sights. The Feria market and Metropol Parasol at Plaza de la Encarnacion, which has a covered market, are within easy walking distance. In fact, walking to centre is easy from the hotel. Recommend the markets to buy ham, cheese and other things you might bring home.

Rincon La Rosita - a tapas bar - is part of the hotel. It well rated by Tripadvisor and other agencies. Breakfast buffet is both good and adequate, if not a little redundant. However, the area has tons of great tapas bars and restaurants. Do not leave Seville without going to conTenedor restaurant (see review). It is outstanding.

Let's be clear, Alcoba del Rey is not a business hotel. The room is small, has little storage space, a barely adequate desk and very poor lighting. On the other hand, if you are OK with living mostly out of your suitcase (one small wardroom with open shelves and minimum hanging space), then the good service and charm will overwhelm you.

The bed in the superior room has a large mattress that is firm and comfortable. The poster bed has a canopy that you need to fold up to get reading light in bed. The bathroom has two basins, a large tub and an open shower. If the toilet was any nearer the window, your feet would dangle over the edge of the sill. It is negotiable, however.

The open shower is strong but be prepared for everything to get wet next to tub because it is open. The water is hot.

Spain is famous for not providing a kettle in the room, but if you ask, the hotel will provide one.

Overall, the kind service, with attention to detail, along with the style, comfort, price and location make Alcoba del Rey a good choice people wanting something with more ambiance than a classic hotel.

Room Tip: My comments are for a superior room

My husband & I recently stayed at the Alcoba. We'd initially booked for the marathon but because of injury it ended up being a wonderful romantic break. The decor is as pictured in a Moorish style. The room was beautiful & really felt like an oasis with touches like a gorgeous rain style shower, an incense menu, and gorgeous smelling toiletries.

The location of the hotel was great as it was an easy walk (20-30 minutes) to a lot of the sights and tapas bars. The service was warm and we felt looked after. Breakfast is served in the restaurant next door and was a very generous spread with fresh orange juice & excellent coffee.

The only let down was that the toilet was not as private as I would prefer being partitioned by a decorative screen. Although for another break in Seville I'd happily book again.

Thank you very much for your opinion. We really appreciate them because they give us clues of how can we improve in our guests' satisfaction. I´'m sorry you could not have the privacy you needed at the tollet. Our rooms are all different between each other and there are much private bathrooms and others that their decoration is such that it makes it difficult to have absolute privacy. I'm sure you can request it next time you visit the hotel and we will assign you a room which will suit your requirements.
It was a pity you could not run our marathon. Maybe next year?
Thanks again and take care.
Rafael

beautiful hotel, full of character and with excellent service. added bonus was an escalator, not always available in an old building. breakfast was a buffet of cheeses, meats and omelettes and breads, all fresh and delicious.

Room Tip: our room was clean and comfortable, not aware of other rooms

We stayed at the Alcoba del Rey de Sevilla for two nights during New Year's celebrations. The hotel is located in the Macarena district, a 20m walk to the historic centre. The neighborhood of the hotel is very nice and full of good restaurants and bars where you can find mostly locals. The rooms are original, cozy clean and comfortable. The staff is very very nice and helpful. Overall, a very good option and we would recommend it if you are in Sevilla. Do try the restaurant, el Rincón de Rosita!
