The hotel is in a pleasant neighborhood, but quite a ways from the city—a walk to the large park nearby is about thirty minutes away and the city center an hour, but it is a nice walk, passing by the pavilions for the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition, not to mention the Real Betis football stadium. The staff of the hotel were very friendly and efficient. The décor of the hotel was not to my taste. The attempt is to look modern, but it feels cheap, with shallow basins in the small bathrooms and plywood walls and floors. Only five years old, the metal structures shading the entryway are already rusting. The rooms are small and the hotel as a whole cramped. Still, it is clean. There are no refrigerators in the rooms and, strangely for me, they deducted the cost of the rooms in their entirety when I made reservations. Overall, this is an acceptable option if other hotels with more charm in the price range are not available.

Dear John,

First of all I would like to thank you for giving us your feed back about our Hotel. Our guests' comments are the best way to improve ourselves and to understand better all different points of views. About your concerns, your are right in saying that it is not a big Hotel, on the contrary it is very small (only 7 rooms). Regarding the size of the rooms, it would be easier to understand why there are some rooms that are smaller if I explain a little bit how it was renovated.

This neighbourhood was built in 1929 for the Iberoamerican exhibition as small hotels. It was supposed to be destroyed but afterwards it wasn't. Now most of the houses are private except some Consulates, lawyers etc... and ourselves. We have recovered the purpose for which it was built. The problem with it is the fact that now these houses have a protection level which doesn't allow owners to renovate the building as we would like to, being forced to keep as it was, i.e. keeping windows, doors, even the stairs where they were. We were not allowed even to change the sense of the stairs nor doing an elevator so this made us to organize the "walls" to separate each room and to include a bathroom (we only have showers due to reduced size of it). This means that there was no other way to organize the building to be ready for a Hotel. Be sure that we have think a lot on this respect.

About maintenance, please note that every year after autumm and winter (which are humid months) , all the metal that is in the open air, needs to be repainted. This is something that we always do in summer when we have guarantees of no rain. So I invite you to come in the next months to be sure that it has been repainted.

On the other hand, I was a little bit surprised about your perception of bad furniture as all we have are high quality and design lamps, chairs etc... very very expensive I promise (top desginers as Philippe Starck, Ptolomeo lamps, Patricia Urquiola etc...). Walls are made in wood even part of the stairs as we though it was better and cleaner compared with the carpet. Can you imagine Seville with 45ºC in summer having carpets in the rooms?. Better not to think about it. If you renovate your house, you will understand that having wood in walls, floors even in the stairs upper ceiling, would costs three times the money that which cost if you paint it, but you will perceive it as twice confortable.

Anyway, Thank you again for your feed back as it gives us also the opportunity to make you understand a litlle bit our Hotel. Nobody is perfect!!

My wife and I together with another couple of good friends stayed at this hotel for 3 days over the Easter period. The staff were very welcoming although we were all a little concerned that upon arrival two of the domestic ladies were asked to carry our luggage up to our rooms. There is no lift in the establishment and we were more than prepared to carry our own luggage up to the allocated rooms. However it was insisted that the ladies perform that task, which they subsequently did, and we felt just a little uncomfortable with that arrangement.

Our hotel room was compact, but clean, a small seating area and had access to an adjacent roof terrace which overlooked the neighbouring properties. It also overlooks the stadium of the local Real Betis Football Club which is literally a stones throw from the hotel. A point to note:- our party elected to park our hire vehicle on the road outside the hotel when we arrived. As is reported in previous reviews the hotel is situated in a nice, quiet residential setting, some distance from the centre of Seville. However, be warned that if Betis are playing at home, the somewhat serene surroundings change quite dramatically. On the final night of our stay, Betis were at home and we encounted large groups of men and youths gathering hours before the match, being loud and openly drinking beer and spirits which they had brought with them for their own pre-match entertainment. Upon returning to the hotel that evening, the amount of litter, bottles and broken glass was amazing. And despite the early morning council cleansing, it was clear that it would take a while to restore the tranquility of our initial couple of days. The hotel is able to provide secure parking and I would certainly recommend utilising that facility should Betis be playing. (Luckily our vehicle did not sustain any damage other than items having been left on our roof which we were able to remove. We had pre-booked car parking but upon arrival felt that our vehicle would be fine on the street).

Despite the above experience, the hotel is very pleasant and Carmen is particularly motivated to ensure that you make the most of your time in Seville. On our first morning, she attended to our table and described in detail the breakfast with which we were to be provided. And provided it is. There is no self service to any aspect of the breakfast, which comprised of fruit juice, toasted rolls, tomato pulp, good olive oil and preserves. There was on each morning a slight change in terms of fresh fruit and cake supplementing the above. Tea and coffee was also served individually by the staff. My issue here would be that much as I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, I do feel that a little more variety would be much appreciated, particularly if staying as we were for a few days. Secondly, despite being only a small hotel, the service of breakfast seemed a little pedestrian, although it is fair to say that any requests for refills or more toast were eventually responded to.

The hotel is some 25-30 mins walk to the centre and as has been reported, there is a regular bus service from the stadium into the city. We used taxis for returning to the hotel on an evening and found the prices very reasonable. On all three occasions it was beneficial that we were able to say to the drivers that the hotel was located close to the Betis stadium.

For ease of avoiding the city centre traffic, this was an ideal location for arriving and departing the city. However, if I was without a vehicle, then I would stay much closer to the city centre.

First of all I would like to thank you for choosing Holos for your staying in Seville and for helping us to improve and understand better our business by writing your comments in TripAdvisor. This is a marvellous way to communicate ourselves with you, our clients, and to see our Hotel with your eyes instead of with ours.

I do feel sorry about your experience with the footbalmatch, this is something that happens from time to time. Fortunately it is only during a certain period of the year and when it happens is only one or two hours before the match. After it, the cleaning service of the city comes to clean and leave the neigourhood as it should be: one of the most beautiful places in Seville. About the car, I do recommended you to park it in our parking even if there is no problem to park in the street, we have place for 2 cars in a private parking about 300m near the Hotel.

Regarding your concern about the luggage, it is important to bear in mind that this house was built in 1929 for the Iberoamerican exhibition so, the building is "protected" which means that when we renovated it, we were not allowed to put an elevator. We only have 2 floors (apart from the ground floor where it is the reception and room 1), all the people that are working at the Hotel are told to take to luggage upstairs, even myself, as we understand this is part of our work. Most of our staff are women but strong and willing to help all our guests, so don't worry about it, it is part of our work.

About breakfast, we are always offering the typical breakfast we take in Andalucia. This is a way to live not only in a typical neigbourhood our of the turistic circle but also tasting the real gastronomy or our city. It is important to bear in mind that it is free or charge, even if we are using the best products (fantastic coffee and different organic teas, natural orange juice, hand made breads, natural jams, and high quality olive oils). If we see that our guests ask for it, we could change our policy by adding an extra cost to our guests and offering a bigger breakfast which is not always a guarantee of being better. In Spain we are used to have a big lunch and dinner but a light breakfast. Anyway, we will think about it.

Again thank you very much for your opinion. This is a good way to give a real idea of different experiences and different points of view.

Regards

Carmen

Just back from a great 3 night break in hotel holos . From when you walk in the door Carmen and her team go out of their way to make your stay as welcoming as possible . Breakfast is a lovely experience with local breads oils and marmalades .we stayed in room five which was in a modern style as is the rest of the hotel which we loved. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but not to anyone bad on their legs as there is no lift (not the hotels fault as the building is listed). A taxi ride to the city centre costs about 7euro and the staff will gladly ring for you. Thanks for a great stay to Carmen and team. Regards Anthony and Liz.

Situated and you can take a cab easily to reach there. You can find this place small but warm, cozy and ‘quiet’. The owner ‘Carmen’ is a wonderful person who helped us throughout, from morning breakfast, to when/where to go to sightseeing. She often made personalized arrangements, which was definitely heart touching.
My crew was worried enough regarding hotel being not stylish and small but once they got to know the excitingly professional staff, they became fond of it. We have stayed there for 5 working days, but each of them was a big holiday. Would sure like to go back to the hotel if I again go to Sevile in this life! Amen

Hotel Holos was everything everyone said it was and more! Three things stood out for us. 1. Luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets made our sleep absolutely blissful, eased us into our vacation without any jet lag despite flying 13 hours from Asia. 2. The water pressure of the shower was powerful despite us being on the highest floor, sheer bliss. 3 Being a small hotel, the manager & staff were very flexible and we had the option of heating up snacks in their kitchen - which is very well equipped - plus they were happy to serve us a cuppa when we returned from the city after a long day.

Indeed the hotel is a 20 min bus ride from the city centre but that wasn't a problem for us. Infact the daily journey enabled people watching and we took it as part of the sightseeing. We stayed 4 nights at Holos, rented a car on the 3rd day to go to Cordoba, Cadiz et al, which worked out really well.

We stayed in room 6, which was next to the terrace which was good. One minor point is that the room is not that big which meant some manoeuvring of the luggages every now and then. We had a peek at room 7, and it was much larger with a loft bed, a really interesting design although it looks like it may be best suited for 3.

All in all, Carmen and her team were great hosts and we couldn't have asked for more impeccable service. Would definitely stay at Holos again if we return to Seville.

Room Tip: Ask for room 7
