We chose this hotel because we were en route and it was handy to leave and rejoin our journey. In that sense it was ideal.
Slightly quirky because it seems like it's been lifted from somewhere else and dropped out of the sky into the wrong place. It's in a bland business/industrial zone, next to a bleak car lot, and yet when you walk in, it's rather grand in a faded sort of way.
We had some confusion in checking in, in that the desk manager(?), when we asked to add an evening meal to our bed and breakfast booking, told us dinner would be free, on the house. He reiterated that and we thanked him effusively.
Later, when it came to dinner, the offer seemed too good to be true, with apparently free wine, and we didn't feel comfortable with the situation.
Sure enough, the next morning, on checking out, we were presented with a bill for the evening meal, which wasn't unreasonable really, but when we mentioned our confusion, the lady on reception looked at us like we were mad or trying to cheat them. Most odd, and we were happy to pay for the food anyway, which was excellent.
Right, to basics. The room on the top floor was pleasant but a bit warm without a/c and we struggled to open the windows fully. The bed was comfy, the shower was excellent (and we needed it to keep cool) the room was spacious and characterful.
All-in-all a very good, if slightly confusing, stopover. It was easy to find and navigate our way out of the next morning. Reasonably priced too.
As for the meal confusion, we can only guess that the desk manager mistakenly thought we were on half-board.
