Owner description: Fortress of the Kings of Castile and Royal School of Artillery Its picture has been around the world: a unique fairy tale-like palace that brings together architectural tastes of different monarchs. It tells -to all those who come to know it- ancient palatial stories. Austere, as they were the Castilian kings, raised on the rock at the confluence of the valleys of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcázar seems to watch over the city. Its beautiful Tower keep, often compared to the bow of a boat sailing between the two rivers, is of a stunning beauty. Tourists are amazed to realize that the fortress is a living part of this Castilian city, chosen as a place of residence for many of the monarchs of the Trastámara dynasty.

“3-4 stars...”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

Clearly worth doing if you're going to Segovia (and we thought the aqueduct alone made a visit to Segovia worthwhile), but we were slightly disappointed by the Alcazar. Perhaps we were just expecting too much.

Make sure you climb the tower if the weather is good. We went on a very overcast day and it was reasonably good views - it looked like it would be absolutely spectacular on a clear day though. We liked the throne room but probably could have taken or left the other rooms...

“A fairytale castle”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

We visited the Alcazar as part of a tour with Julia Tours. Like most day tours you would like to do your own thing and we seemed to have missed out not having time to do the tower. Our guide did give us a comprehensive tour of the main rooms.

“lovely rooms and great views from tower”
Reviewed 28 January 2012

the location of the alcazar is pretty spectacular - seems to be overhanging some rocks. we visited the rooms in the castle (didn't have a guided tour but there was a comprehensive leaflet) and also climbed the juan II tower which was well worth it for the views esp. of the cathedral and the guadarrama mountains. it was a market day in segovia so plaza mayor was filled with stalls, which was great. segovia is a beautiful town!!

“always magic”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

If you are in Segovia, you can't do without visiting Alcazar. If you are in Alcazar - though it is interesting to look thru all the exhibition on the ground floor - you simply should buy extra tickets come up to the top. The view from it is one of the most facinating that I have ever seen before.
