“Good value in El Raval”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2012

I've stayed at the Hotel Peninsular several times over the past 6 yrs, and always find it a good value (breakfast is included in the rates). It's a no-frills hotel located not far from Las Ramblas in barrio El Raval (c/ Sant Pau) with a professional, welcoming staff and comfortable beds.

Room Tip: When booking, ask for a quiet room.

I was very skeptical staying at this hotel due to the many poor reviews. However, we were traveling as a group and the group leader chose this hotel. In summary, my experiences were similar to the others writing positive reviews. The rooms are basic, clean and I was able to sleep quite comfortably in a room on the second floor. Not sure if I would stay here with my wife in the future (we are a bit more spoiled), but for a group of men or students, it fits the bill quite nicely. I would recommend it for people on a budget.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on an architectural study trip. I have stayed in 5 star hotels in many cities around the world, so this was my first experience of a 1 star. I can honestly say I was a bit worried when I read the reviews on here, but then you can't please everybody. I found it great value for money. We had a room for 4 on the 4th floor. It was a large room, basic, but clean and comfortable. The beds were made every day and clean towels in the room. The staff were friendly and the continental breakfast was what you would expect from a 1 star. The hotel is centrally located, close to La Rambla and walking distance from main attractions and metro. Lovely interior courtyard for relaxing after sightseeing. A bit noisy at night, but this is what you get if you stay in centre of town. I would recommend it.

Very central, former convent so unconventional layout. Clean, friendly, good beds , linen, and towels for a very modest price. One computer with wi-fi. No technology in the rooms at all-no T.V. What a relief! Central seating quiet area mid-floor . 19th century traditional feel.
Fully booked by clientele of many ages from many countries, both holiday and business.
Decent continental breakfast in the price of £30. Ellen c.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quiet. Some double rooms are larger than others, so ask if you need more floor spa...

Our room was really clean, a good size and very quiet. Beds(very comfortable) were changed every second day and towels replaced even when not requested. Plenty to eat at breakfast. Location is excellent, just a short distance from La Rambla. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Fantastic value at £30 per night. There was a real cross section of ages and nationalities visiting.

Room Tip: Attic or rooms facing away from the main street are quiet.

Stayed in this hotel for one night, and probably the worst hotel we ever stayed in.Room was very small with very basic facilities,no air con and a noisy fan,the heat was unbearable. This hotel is not up to the standard of even a hostel. The area does not feel safe as there are a lot of shady looking people loitering around the street.

Room Tip: Nothing to recomend this hotel.

We came as a family to this hotel after booking 3 nights through their website. I can describe this hotel using one word : Nightmare.
Although it is located close to the center (The Rambla street), it is actually placed in a side alley where unpleasant people (to say the least) wander during evening and night hours. The hotel itself is literally dirty. The worse thing is that in all the beds there were bedbugs crawling on the beds and the walls; did I already say a nightmare? In the middle of the second night, when we realized that the crawling creatures are not just naive beetles, we packed our staff and moved downstairs to book a different hotel using the "lobby" computer. The reception clerk was really angry and nervous, cursing in Spanish. He smelled like he drunk an entire bar and was quite aggressive. Anyway, we moved at sunrise to the next hotel. I CLEARLY RECOMMEND NOT TO GO TO THIS HOTEL in Saint Pau 34 street, Barcelona!!!
