This was great and it was free Dmission for senior citizens! (however it would have been well worth the admission fee!). I wanted to skip the early rt and go directly to modern but was out voted and glad that I was! The frescos were amazing. The best presentation of work that I have seen. They built naves and windows and arches replicating the original structures and placed the frescos as they were done originally. The colors were so vivid it is difficult to imagine how they could be this well preserved. We tend to associate Barcelona with Gaudi, Picasso and Dali but the early eras have incredible stories to share with the visitor. Gift shop is good, restaurant pricey and slow but small cafeteria snack shop available too. You should allow at least 4 hours to see the exhibits.

Though we took the subway, the museum is walkable from the AC Hotel Sants -- which we discovered only after taking the subway! Just taking the escalators up the hill and enjoying the magnificient view of the city is worth the journey. The museum exhibits are a bit confusing as the plan bore little resemblance to the actual layout. However, the entire visit is worthwhile if one only sees the 12C-13C frescoes.

Start at the bottom and walk up - yes walk, but there are escalators as well.
The building looks amazing from the park at the bottom.
The whole place is kept clean and all greenery was well looked after.
As you go up - turn and see the city grow before you, look to your right and Sagrada Familia is visable.
I was there around 4 o'clock - the sky was clear and the place was busy, but the outisde space is worth the trip alone. I found the building itself as inspiring as the art inside.
Too be honest - it's no Rennie Sofia (which is in Madrid) but the place inside is cool and well air conditioned.
The biggest thing I take away is the outisde space - I love Spanish outside spaces - only go in if you are generally interested in Modern Art.

The ramanesque art is superb and fairly unique outside of Italy so it should be high on your list. The gothic stuff is good, and even though you can see it in the churches nearby, it is easier to access and generally better preserved here. The modern art has a few good pieces (including a temporary Picasso room with borrowed items), but it is not a strength of this museum. The views of the city are awesome in the front of the building and in the upscale restaurant on the second floor.

Had limited time so I was rushed to go through the entire museum.

Photography policy was inconsistent. Some part of the museum, you are allowed and others are not allowed.

If you are to pay double price of their one time entrance fee, it allows you to have unlimited visits through the entire year. However, for most tourists, that is not viable option.
