“central but not four stars”
Reviewed 27 April 2012

I stay in hotel the last week end.The location is good, central.
The room is very dark because the window is little and there is a table-desktop in front of it, blocked in the walls. The staff man , called to close the window and eliminate the noise
caming from the street, climbed on the table and finally closed the window!!!!:
The glass-made wash-hand bassin , have a little break on the edge.
And ,last but non least, the day of departure at 8 o'clock AM, the breakfast room is closed!!!
I payed for two breakfast and i got only one !!!.
The four stars hotel is only two star maximum;tree stars are for staff kindness and disponibility.

Room Tip: last floors are quieter

This place IS a little gem. Its in a great position, only 2 stops away on the metro from Las Ramblas, so smack in the middle of the city. It's clean, well appointed and wonderful bathrooms. No noise heard from the room. Advice from the staff was very helpful for a tourist in this wonderful city. Liked it so much have decided to go back again later this year (2012).

Room Tip: I stayed in a back room away from the street. I heard no noise from other guests in the evenings.

We had a great time here. The location is quiet and safe and within good reach of bars, restaurants, metro, buses and sights. Don't be put off by the reported distance by some reviewers from the tourist centre, there is much more to wonderful Barcelona than Las Ramblas!
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Thoroughly recommend upgrading to a suite with its many facilities. We would however have liked a more comfortable sitting area with some softer furnishings and even some pictures on the stark walls.
Breakfast was acceptable, but not startling, and has both a coffee machine which, at times, seemed to have a mind of its own and a toaster which required four attempts to get successful toasted bread!
We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Go to the Flamant Restaurant on Carrer d'Enric Granados for lovely atmosphere, terrific ambience...

Acevi Villarroel is a 4-star hotel in an excellent neighborhood, L'eixample. It is about 6 blocks from Paseo de Gracia - the main commercial/shopping area in Barcelona - in between two of Gaudi's best works on Paseo de Gracia, La Pedrera and Casa Batllo. We moved to this hotel from a different 4-star hotel from Las Ramblas because we wanted to be in an area where we would feel safe at night. Las Ramblas is an excellent area to shop and be a tourist during the day, but after 9pm even the taxi drivers told us it is not smart to be walking around. So Acevi was a hotel we found to be in a safe area still within a walking distance from all the major attractions.

Our room was fantastic! It was a spacious king bed room that felt like a suite. The entrance was large and felt like a foyer instead. The bathroom sink was separated from the shower/toilet and that made it very comfortable. The hotel has great staff, all very friendly and willing to give advice. The wifi is free, which is a great feature not available at many hotels. If there are any drawbacks to the room it was probably the lack of large windows, but that is a recurring theme in many Barcelona hotels because of the proximity of the buildings. Overall, the rooms were very clean, though the attention to detail was not great. In other words, it is a well categorized 4-star hotel, not close to a 5-star hotel. The bar/restaurant "106" has great food for a good price. Finally, the price for the hotel was very reasonable for a 4-star, even though we booked it within a week of travel.

The neighborhood was great as well. L'eixample has several bars and lounges for all types of people. It appears that there's a bar on each block, which gives tourists a great variety. The walk to Paseo de Gracia is only about 10-15 minutes. Perhaps a hotel closer to Paseo would be better, but you are unlikely to find one with a better price.

Acevi was definitely a great hotel that we are likely to visit again in the future. It is good for couples and even children. The property is clean and quiet, and the surrounding neighborhood is comfortable, populated with several eateries and bars, and the walk to touristic areas is reasonable.

We stayed there 3 nights. When we first arrive they treated really nice, but it was just for the first day. The room was big, I cannot deny that, and the bed was comfy, but apart from that, the room had nothing else to offer. The room could have been more decorated but it wasn't. The walls where white with nothing on them. The TVs where from the 90's (come on, even 3 star hotels have flat screens now!!). They offer you free wi-fi on their site, but it does not work once you arrive unless you sit on the floor next to your bedroom door or go to the reception. The bathroom could have been nice with more lights, but as they where just a few and didn't light up at all it wasn't. The cards on the room say that room service ends up at 11:30 PM. However, if you call at 10:30 PM they won't answer. When we got tired of waiting we went down to order our own food but they told us that the kitchen was closed (at 11:15). The breakfast was good, well, the food was, but the dishes where not washed very well. Sometimes you could find lefts over of food on them. Last but not least, on the last day, just before a taxi picked us up, they where so rushed for us to go that they took out our luggage (from the luggage room) and they did it with so little care that they broke one of my bags and didn't stop to say sorry. The location is good but I am pretty sure you can find a cheaper and better hotel closer to the city center or even the beach. I won't stay there any more.

Room Tip: The spa costs more than it is worth. The place has broken lamps, no decoration and a funny smell.

Dear Guest,

First of all I would like to apologise about all the problems you, and at the same time I would like to thank you to let me know about that.

Since then we have had some changes that I am sure have improved our service. We have a new chef who worked in some of the best resturants in Brusells, including one with a Michelin Star. He is working to improve our breakfast buffet with more variety and adding new products.

Moreover, since this summer we offer to our guests a free internet connection using optical fiber which give us a high speed wifi signal much faster and reliable.

We work very hard to give our best service, but at the same time we also learn about the opinions of our guests in order to improve day by day.

I hope to receive your visit again in the future to see all the changes.

Kind Regards,

We've just had a wonderful break in Barcelona with our 5 and 18 month old girls. The Acvei is in a location that is convenient for walking around the city or catching the metro. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel too. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and really good with the children - no negative reactions when the girls got a bit too excited! Our room was nicely appointed and as it was on 2 levels we had bathroom facilities on both levels. The on site restaurant offered good value for money and were again very family friendly.

Centally located for major tourist areas. Safe, quiet location. Extremely helpful staff. Great value for the money. Have spent more in Barcelona on accomodation and recieved less!
N.B.As you come out of the hotel if you turn left and walk down towards the metro there is the Balmes cafe cake and savoury pastry shop at No 78 Villarroel. An excellent little cafe with great pastries and teas. Ideal for a quick breakfast or pit stop.
