“Good base for Barcelona Grand Prix and sightseeing”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

My wife and I stayed in the Hotel Constanza for 5 nights over the 2012 Barcelona Grand Prix weekend.

The location as a base for the Grand Prix was pretty good. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station Passeig De Gracia where you can catch a train directly to the Circuit De Catalyuna at Montmello (a 30 minute train journey followed by a 30 minute walk). We also found that the hotel was well placed for Barcelona sight seeing, with plenty of sights and restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed in a standard double room which was modern, clean and had plenty of space. It wasn't very well sound proofed however and you could hear people in the adjacent and above rooms more than you would like. When one room had a shower at midnight the noise echoed through the aircon waking us up (it was louder than if we had the shower on in our room and left the door open). The room had a nice balcony over looking the street, a TV with some English programmes, a safe and the toiletries were replaced daily.

It was quiet during our stay and it didn't seem like a lot of other guests were staying at the hotel. There is free wifi in reception and wired internet in the rooms (although we found the wifi worked in our first floor room which was good).

One point for future consideration would be the construction work taking place next door. The whole building has been torn down and it looks like it will be rebuilt in the not too distant future. We found there was no work on the Friday or the weekend but 8am Monday morning some loud machinery woke us up.

We didn't have breakfast or eat in restaurant Bruc 33 so won't comment on those. We did have a drink on the roof terrace which was nice although the hotel doesn't make the best is of it - there is no tea/coffee or snacks available. We also found a very nice pastry shop just over the road and round the corner that we would recommend.

Considering it was the Grand Prix weekend the room price didn't seem unreasonable in comparison to nearby hotels and if returning I would think about staying at the Hotel Constanza again.

Stayed 5 nights for business. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff,
nothing was to much for them, cannot rate them highly enough. Rooms were
clean and tidy, minimalist but comfortable.
Will be back here when next in Barcelona.

Spent a night with the family. It was comfortable, quiet, pleasant, efficient, not expensive, and good location. Recommend!

I've just returned from a three night stay in Hotel Constanza and my overall view of the hotel was that it was a positive and pleasant experience.

We pre-booked so got a good rate and opted for a king-size room with a terrace. The hotel itself is a 5 minute stroll from Playa de Cataluña so close enough to take advantage of all that the surrounding area offers (shopping, Las Ramblas, access to airport transport, metro and tourist buses), but just slightly away so you aren't impacted by the hustle and bustle.

We were greeted by a well-spoken and pleasant front of house staff. Check-in process was simple and we were directed to our room on the first floor (via the lift). Our room itself was great! Clean, comfortable and spacious. The terrace overlooked buildings at the rear of the hotel, but was pleasant enough if you wanted to sit and have a glass of wine whilst taking a quick chill-out moment between exploring. The bed was comfy; basically two single beds locked together with what I believed was a full size mattress. The only thing we found strange was that instead of one king-size duvet, we have two single duvets made up as one. It didn't bother us but might not be to everyone's liking.

The room was equipped with mini-bar fridge and flat screen TV (we could only find BBC world service news as the only English speaking channel, but as we weren't in the room that much it wasn't really an issue). The was an in-room safe and plenty of storage space; and in a separate area, there was a writing desk, chair and mirror, so plenty of space for the two of us to get ready without falling over each other.

The room is air-conditioned but the temperature control appears to be controlled centrally, but setting was a pleasant enough 21oc and it was a quiet unit so ok to leave on overnight without impacting sleep quality.

The bathroom, again clean well equipped and nice towels and complimentary toiletries. The shower was good; decent water pressure and plenty of hot water.

So you are asking yourselves why only the average rating. Well I downgraded it from very good to average because of the very obvious sound proofing issue. Whilst I couldn't hear any external noise, the internal noise was very intrusive. The internal door onto the corridor barely did anything to muffle the foot traffic in the corridor; the first time we encountered it we actually wondered if we'd left our door open! Also, (and this has been mentioned by an earlier reviewer) you are very aware when someone in a an adjacent room has either flushed the toilet or taking a shower, plus from the room next door we could hear wardrobes being opened and electric switches being used.

It didn't spoil our trip but for a decent hotel charging what they do, I would've expected slightly better internal ambience than we experienced (and to be clear, the noise in corridors, was not screaming and shouting, just general foot traffic and chatter). Sleep quality rating below is a three based upon being woken up by foot traffic in the corridor - the actual bed, no complaints.

I would still recommend this hotel as I do think the pluses out way the one negative, but I'd be remiss in my review if I didn't mention this to my fellow travellers.

A big thank you to Reda and all the staff at Constanza for a fantastic weekend. The attention to detail was fantastic from the initial booking (including help with restaurants and tours) to warm welcome and amazing room.
We could not find a fault and will certainly be back.

I stay here often when travelling on business and it meets most of my needs.
- Good location
- Clean rooms which are mostly quite (although other guests can wake you up due to the hard floors of the halls and doors closing)
- Comfortable beds
- Quality showers
- Reliable wi-fi

Only downsides are that breakfast is very basic and there are no coffee facilities in the rooms.

This was a reasonably good place overall, though I thought it a tad expensive.
They charged me way more than they should have when I booked.
This was refunded when I objected when staying there; they refunded me and charged me the quoted amount when I checked out, the time the booking info had said the charge would be put through at. Noting this in the hope it doesnt happen to anyone else.

Room Tip: The buffet breakfast is tasty and good value.
