Value for money in a nutshell. The hostel is clean and tidy very close to town. Breakfast had variety of cereal coffee and tea on offer. I would recommend it to my friends and family would go there again definitely.

Room Tip: Basic but comfortable.

Stayed here for 8 nights. Overall I think it is a good budget option in Barcelona, which are not easy to find. But if you compare it to quality experienced in budget hotels in europe it is merely average.

The room space was sufficient. Also it was a plus that we could open the window / doors to let in some fresh air. This was really necessary since the airco looked unclean, the apartment could get warm and damp (even in November) and if the neighbours flushed their toilet, we could smell it.

The bed is just meeting 'ok'. It is is no way comfortable but I also did not keep me awake. Also the toilet was too small to call this even remotely comfortable. The shower worked fine (only the rain shower did not). Also the WiFi did not always work / very slow.

The room is cleaned everyday and you can have breakfast all through the day, which was excellent (excellent coffee, cookies, bread, yoghurt, serials, orange juice...). Another excellent point is the location that is close to the ramblas and to metrostation universitat. Also the building has an elevator.

All in all a great budget option for Barcelona that may require you to lower your comfort standard but spares you some money, which may come in handy for all the expensive museums.

If you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money, but you want to be in a good, clean location in Barcelona, this is a great place to stay. The woman who greeted up was very pleasant and willing to recommend places to eat and hang out. We only stayed one night, but the night was a decent sleep. The walls are terribly thin, but that's to be expected. They also have a selection of food available in the kitchenette that you can help yourself to while you are there.

It's basically an upscale hostal, but the best part is that you aren't sharing a bathroom down the hall. Each room has been smartly designed with a bathroom, a shower and a sink. All the amenities that you would need! Just make sure that if you are sharing a room you are VERY comfortable with all of your bodily actions before staying together. There's not much privacy.

To sum it up... basic and clean with tight quarters.

Amazing location. At check in, great service and very helpful member of staff willing to give his time and knowledge. Rooms are modern and classy. Clean and bright -we got free upgrade to room with a balcony. Music system in rooms where you can plug in your own Ipod. Breakfast is provided - help yourself in your own time! Can walk to Las ramblas in 5 minutes and very easy to get to from airport. 6 euros bus to drop you at university square. Many great bars and restaurants on the door step. Will stay again!

Good:
Location is very close to Universitat metro and Aerobus stop, and central to the best neighbourhoods.
All-day self-serve cold breakfast is nice, though it's no smorgasbord.
Bad:
Uncomfortable bed. Thin, springy, uneven.
Dirty room. The all-white, minimalist sanitarium chic decor looks dirty easily.
Ugly:
WORST wifi ever. I was unable to use the wifi in my room (second floor) for most of my stay. It was very weak, unreliable, but mostly just absent. According to management it often doesn't work with iPhones and iPads. Seriously. Obviously doesn't work with MacBookPros either. No hotel should advertise free wifi if the only part of the statement that's true is the "free" part. Nor if it isn't functioning in your room.
WORST shower ever. The shower is tiny, less than a square metre, and the hot water pressure is terrible. And this was in an Xtra Large (deluxe) room. If you value a proper shower, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Get a room with dedicated shower space. The modular toilet-shower-sink-in-ones are cramped and reall...

I recommend this place :

- very well located, near Pl. Catalunya.
- al day breakfast (self service) is much appreciated
- rooms are cleaned

The only thing that can be tricky is if you come after 9 pm, you have to go to another place to take the key (Jaume) : not so far so it's ok.

we've been in Chic&Basic Tallers this weekend and we have only great things to say about it.
first, the location is awesome. the hotel is located on the universtat so the bus from the airport droped us very near the hostel.
the hostel is near the rambla. it's really close to many of the shops so it's great for shoping.
the metro is right next to the hotel too so u can travel anywhere u want.
we got a really small room... so if u are a big guy u need to book the biggest room they have and it will be ok.
it's really quiet in the room, although it's close to the centre.
there's a good wi-fi there and a good air-condition.
it's seems that the place was renovated recently, u can smell a bit the new paint, but it's ok.
the best thing of the hostel is the service. nikos and luiz are very lovely and helped us whenever we needed something.
there's a dining room that u can use for breakfast any time of the day u want.
it's really homey, there's a great coffee machine, and small things that makes the difference.
next to the dining room there's a computer u can use anytime of the day.
it's not a hotel, it's a hostel... but it delivers anything u need (if u're not fussy too much).
in general it had a great value for the money we paid.
